Nominations for the Board of Directors Mark Unseen   Oct 29 19:30 UTC 2000

Nominations are now open for the Cyberspace Communications, Inc.
Board of Directors. In accordance with Article 4, Section d of the
Bylaws, nominations will close on November 15 and an online election
held December 1 through December 15. Terms of office begin on January
1, 2000, and are two years in length. Three seats are up for election
this time around.

Any current member of Grex who has paid at least 3 months' membership
dues is eligible to run for and serve on the Board unless they are
currently serving and are completing the second of two consecutive
terms. (People in the latter group are eligible to run again in
next year's election if they are still members at that time.)

The terms of four Board members have one more year to run: Eric
Bassey (other), Meg Heberlein (eeyore), Greg Fleming (flem), and
Marcus Watts (mdw).

The three Board members whose terms end on December 31 are STeve
Andre (steve), John Remmers (remmers), and Jan Wolter (janc).
Jan Wolter is completing two consecutive terms and is therefore not
eligible to run for re-election. STeve Andre and John Remmers are
both eligible to run.

Use this item to make nominations. To see the current membership list,

if you are running Picospan. Although a person does not have to be
a member at the time of nomination, to be eligible to run they must
be members by the time voting begins on November 15.

The Bylaws are posted in item 2 of this conference and enumerate the
duties of directors.

I should add that board members are required to attend regular
face-to-face meetings. These are held once a month, in Ann Arbor.

(Nitpick: I'm assuming terms of office begin January 1, *2001*? Or is
this a greatly delayed election?)

I nominate Mark Conger.

Sorry, right, 2001. (The hazards of copy & paste...)

How long do people need to be out of office before being reelected?

response 6 of 65: Mark Unseen   Oct 30 18:12 UTC 2000

One year. In particular, Mark hit the term limit a year ago
but is now eligible again.

I'd like to nominate danr and kaplan. I've not asked either of them if
they are interested but I hope they are and that they don't mind my not
contacting them first.

Too, there are a couple of people who don't tend to respond much in Co-op
but who I think would fit in well on the board and be good Grex advocates
- bmoran and davel. Would either of you be interested in running?

I'd also like to see remmers seek another term. Can you nominate
a spouse? ;-)

Sure, go for it. I'll nominate scott and second danr and kaplan.

I'll second scott and remmers.
I'd like to nominate arlo, but I think I'll wait a bit.

I think we established that you have to be 18 to be aGrex board member.

Months or years? ;-)
davel
response 15 of 65: Mark Unseen   Nov 7 13:06 UTC 2000

Years, and it's a legal requirement.

Thanks, Mary, but no. "I will not accept if nominated and will not
serve if elected." And all that stuff.

I'm going to have to decline my nomination as well. I'm just not as
interested as I used to be. :(

Only one candidate for three seats so far? Sounds more like an M-Net election
than a Grex election.

response 18 of 65: Mark Unseen   Nov 8 15:11 UTC 2000

I'd like to nominate:
  John Remmers
  Steve Andre

There are two days left to find two more candidates.

response 20 of 65: Mark Unseen   Nov 13 14:29 UTC 2000

If no one has seconded remmers and STeve, I'll do the deed. :)

response 21 of 65: Mark Unseen   Nov 13 15:51 UTC 2000

By the way, I misspoke in #0: Nominations close on November 15,
but voting doesn't begin until December 1. Therefore, a candidate
needs to be a member by December 1, not November 15, in order to
be eligible to run.

Marcus nominated a few people in the Agora announcements item.
Throwing those together with the people who have been mentioned
here, the following folks have been nominated but have neither
accepted nor declined: danr, kaplan, bmoran, steve, gypsi,
gull, orinoco, jiffer, cmcgee, remmers. Not all of them may
be caught up on coop, so I'll send them email to alert them.

Under the bylaws, no new names can be placed in nomination
after November 15 (that's this coming Wednesday). However,
there's precedent for acceptance after the close of nominations,
so I think we can allow that, as long as the person has accepted
by the time voting starts.

(As is sometimes the case, I'm on the fence about my own
nomination. If I do accept, there should be discussion about
how the election should be run, since I'm normally the election
administrator.)

I accept Marcus's nomination. Hopefully no scandels will arrise from
this.

Probably not, except for the possibility of spelling scandals. :)
