2000 Grex Birthday picnic! Mark Unseen   Jul 10 17:35 UTC 2000

What with all the excitement over our nice guets from M-Net, we somehow forgot
about the annual Grex Birthday picnic.

Oof...I was just thinking about that. Were we thinking the 16th? That
seems too soon now. We have to allow for people's schedules, so maybe
the 23rd - or even 30th - would work better?

I probably can't make the 23rd or the 30th. :( The 23rd is especially bad.

We have two other picnics the 23rd. I think people need a bit more advance
notice. 30th is okay.
Does it have to be Gallup Park? Island Park is really nice, and has two
shelters not counting the Greek Temple.

She has a point about the 23rd being kinda short notice, especially in summer.
Hmmm...

It's actually tradition to use Island Park.

There was an attempt to get a discussion moving to set a date in
the Spring Agora conference, but it fizzled. *shrug*
July 16th was the only date I could have made.

Is August impossible? A belated birthday? Is a Saturday possible?

response 12 of 34: Mark Unseen   Jul 13 21:08 UTC 2000

First weekend in AUgust is now Grexstock, so that might be inconvenient.

Should this be discussed in Agora (linked)?

response 14 of 34: Mark Unseen   Jul 16 18:24 UTC 2000

I'd like it to happen before August. If we can't pick a single date, can
we quickly pick a few possibilities and see which would be best?

I'm with srw. Let's just do it next week .

With as much power as I have (pretty much none, that is), I hereby declare
that the picnic is to be held Sunday, July 23 at 1:00 pm, at Island Park in
Ann Arbor.

I'll be there! (for part of it, anyway)

May want to change the motd from "being discussed" to "this is the decided
date".

And in case of rain on 7/23/00?

response 21 of 34: Mark Unseen   Jul 17 16:21 UTC 2000

We are going to the Tigers game that day, but I will stop by afterward in
the hope that people will still be there.

Re #20: What we've done in the past, Richard, is run for the shelter and
hang out there until the rain passes.

My apartment is within sight of Island park, so if the rain is too unbearable
people are welcome to invade. With luck, it will be slightly cleaner by then.

It happened, people came, they ate, they talked, they went away..

Wish I could have been there, but I had a pagan festival planning
meeting to attend. (I know, same excuse as everyone else's...)
