Top of the Park: Promoting Grex on July 9th Mark Unseen   Jun 22 05:15 UTC 2000

This Top of the Park item is more business like. Continuing from items
#29 and #242 in Spring Agora...

Grex is sponsoring the movie on the final night of Top of the Park,
which is July 9, and we have placed an order for refrigerator magnets
to be given out that night. Eric/other has requested copies of the
Grex logo for AASF (Ann Arbor Summer Festival) use: I'm guessing they'll
make a slide to project over the stage.

Please link this item to coop.

It would be nice to see a recap on the pledges & such for helping
with the movie or the promotional items.

Logos should be up to 16 bit grayscale, tiff format.

We now have around 150 Galaxy Quest buttons to use or hand out
on our movie night. As I said in th spring, they quickly become a
GREX badge when a fridge magnet is applied.

richard in resp:2 :: M-net used to do that at the Ann Arbor Art Fair,
but it's not possible or appropriate for TOP.

In a year or so, you should be able to get Ricochet modems in Ann Arbor, if
I have anything to say about it. The Detroit Metro area is in the coverage
plans, all the way out to Ypsi of all places. http://www.metricom.com/

Refridgerator magnets: 218.00 pledged, 20.00 paid.

Dunno if this was mentioned here or not, but there is now a web page for

Proposed new GREX logo for TOP usage:

The TOP materials will reference cyberspace.org, not grex.org.
Also, I have done my own little clean-up/remanufacture of the
GREX temple logo and it can be found at:

        http://www-personal.umich.edu/~ebassey/grex2.jpg

The actual file is an 8-bit greyscale tiff file. I didn't have
the original font used for the GREX letters, so I used what I
had. Let me know what you think, as I need to get this in ASAP.

Eric B, do we get to send a representative up to the stage? I seem to
recall some sponsors doing the nightly t-shirt drawing, but I could be
totally off base here. If we do, I'd volunteer to do it.

response 15 of 124: Mark Unseen   Jul 3 16:21 UTC 2000

It is an option to have a representative do the drawing and/or introduce
the band/movie. In our case, it be the movie. Sice another group os
sponsoring the evening, I don't know if we will have the option or if they
will, or both.

Magnet update: The company we are buying the magnets from farms out
the actual manufacturing. Our magnets were supposed to have been shipped
back to Lansing on Friday, June 30. They didn't arrive today; we hope
they will arrive Wednesday.
ea
response 17 of 124: Mark Unseen   Jul 3 22:58 UTC 2000

Well, I'd be happy to introduce the movie or do the drawing, if nobody
else wants to. Do we also get to say a few words about Grex?

response 18 of 124: Mark Unseen   Jul 4 04:06 UTC 2000

I don't think so. I haven't seen anyone else up there talking about a
sponsoring organization other than WEMU being talked about by WEMU staff
promoting other shows and events with which they are connected.

Whatever it is, it is brief and impromptu, so we'll talk about it that evening
before it actually happens.

response 19 of 124: Mark Unseen   Jul 5 22:10 UTC 2000

I picked up the magnet order from Impressive Printing today.
I didn't count them. It's a big heavy box of magnets.
They look pretty decent; thanks to STeve for the design work.

I haven't been able to find Steve Andre', and I'm on a tight schedule
tonight. My plan is to hand the magnets off to other at Top of the Park
around 9 tonight. After that, it's up to other Grexers to hand them
out on Sunday: I will not be there.

If you made a pledge in support of the magnet project, please send in the
money to the treasurer. A few more contributions in the $10-$25 range
would lift the spirits of my wallet considerably.

I just wrote my check. Thanks Ken, Steve, and Eric for all your work on
this project!
ea
response 21 of 124: Mark Unseen   Jul 6 02:40 UTC 2000

Mark, there are 2 Eric's who have contributed on this project. Eric B
has been working with the AASF people, and probably doing more work on
this project than I have. All I did was volunteer to help with the
desigon process, and volunteer to help onstage. So far, I haven't
actually done anything. Ken, Steve, and Eric B deserve most of the
credit here.

While cleaning my desk the other day, I discovered a pile of bright
yellow paper, which would probably be very good for flyers. I have
access to a high-speed copier, and could design/copy something if we
thought it would be useful. Let me know by the end of the day Thursday,
I can probably have a design ready for proofing by Friday. I can copy
on Saturday, and have everything ready for Sunday night. Give me
suggestions (was there someone else who volunteered to make flyers?
I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes here, just trying to help)

The box of magnets was handed off to Eric/other at TOP tonight.
I have held back around 200 to be sure contributors get their magnets,
and for other internal/future distributions.

Re #21: Thanks to both Erics! Eric A: I believe Jessica
(llanarth/balynce/etc.) volunteered to make flyers, but I don't know if
she's made any progress. I think you should write to her - your offer is a
really good one.

Any staff (treasurer or some similair) going to be around to
get checks face to face at TOP for our contributions?
