Minutes for the June Board Meeting Mark Unseen   Jun 28 04:23 UTC 2000

Well, here's for hoping that I don't get booted off again halfway through this
entry...I was a wee bit ticked last time.

I apologize for getting this in so late...Between not having a 'puter for a
couple of weeks, plus working way too much for my own good, getting anything
accomplished has been a real trick. But I'm trying. :)

Minutes: Spoon banging commenced at 7:10. Attendants were Jessica, Eric,
Jan, Steve, Mark, John, Mary, Greg & Meg. Late arrivals were STeve and
Marcus.

Chair: Due to the fact that he left the gavel at home, Eric announced that
for the evening, the part of the gavel would be played by the spoon.

Treasurer: As of the meeting, the report was not yet done, since Greg didn't
have the information from the bank yet....it was too darn early in the
month. We made about $100 in May, but Greg had not yet had a chance
process all of the credit cards. Right now we are having about 30-40
credit cards declined every month. Somebody did manage to use a
credit card that was not theirs - we were notified by the person that
the card really belonged to. That money is being returned to its
proper owner. Paypal was discussed briefly, and Jessica was going to
do some looking into it. Alot of our credit card usuers come from
        Europe.

Publicity: Nothing new to report. Eric brought up TOP - All of our publicity
material will have "grex.org" on it. Jessica is going to work on
TOP publicity - Fliers and such.

Tech: The attack on Griffus was discussed, and no damage seems to have been
done. Griffus is getting old, though, and needs o be replaced. We
do have an open BFD machine waiting to be used. STeve has formatted
a few discs for the development machine, but the machine hasn't been
built yet. (sorry if this is wrong...I'm trying to decipher my
handwriting!) The telnet connections dropping was due to Dorian having
ISP instabilities. We had gottedn a copu of contract with Voyager -
They're going to be setting up and ISDN line until we get our DSL.

Next Meeting will be Monday, July 24.

Asset Investment Options: Greg did a bit of looking into Pax - It's not
insured, but it's quite stable, and not likely to lose any money.
There is a $250 minimum, and withdrawls must be atleast $50. They
do do dividend reinvestment, and we can write checks, with a minimum
of $250 per check. Right now we have $5400 in bank. We thought that
we should keep about $1500 in the bank so that we have that cushion,
but if necessary, we can just write $250 checks to our bank account.
Greg will deposit money into Pax as he sees fit, to get us started out.

New Bussiness: There is a system in Germany that has posted the Grex Manifesto
word for word as their own. The offical line is "We are amused".
There is also is also a company that has offered to give each user of
Grex 150 megs of space fi we give pointers to their website on Grex.
After a bit of general amusement, Marcus offered to write them a letter
inviting them to come in and look around, and then make the letter on
Co-Op. The Birthday Picnic was brought up.

Ending was at 8:10, with another spoon banging.

Update/correction (not sure which):

The TOP materials will reference cyberspace.org, not grex.org.
Also, I have done my own little clean-up/remanufacture of the
GREX temple logo and it can be found at:

        http://www-personal.umich.edu/~ebassey/grex2.jpg

The actual file is an 8-bit greyscale tiff file. I didn't have
the original font used for the GREX letters, so I used what I
had. Let me know what you think, as I need to get this in ASAP.

Carol was there too.

What's that image for, Eric? Does it need to be black & white?

A logo for the poster thing on the back of the projection tower and for the
slide to be projected onto the wall.

(Will the part of the gavel regularly be played by guest stars, or is this
a one-shot attempt to improve ratings by bringing in a big name for a single
episode?)

It was an emergency situation. Actually the spoon has been the understudy
for just such occasions for quite a while.
