Status button in Auction Conf? Mark Unseen   Mar 26 20:24 UTC 2000

I don't know if this is the right place for it but it seems better than
anyplace else.

I'd like to ask janc and/or staff to implement a button in the Auction
conference on Backtalk which allows a user to see the current output of
the program which tells which auction items have been closed, paid for
and delivered.

This item is for discussion of the worthiness/possibility of this.

Thanks!

(For those who don't know, you can do a variety of queries on the status of
the auction with the "query" program. For example,
/-------------------\
query buyer aruba
\-------------------/
will tell you all the items bought by me, and their statuses.
/---------------\
query summary
\---------------/
will give you the summary Eric is referring to.
/-------\
query
\-------/
by itself will give you a list of valid queries.

Probably we should just do a CGI wrapper form Mark's query program.

You could put links to it in the conference login message (which can
contain html).

Sounds good. The program does take input, so there would have to be a form
of some sort.

This is really minimal, but the following links now work:

http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=open
http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=closed
http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=paid
http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=delivered
http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=summary
http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=buyers
http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=donors
http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=buyer&login=bruin
http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=donor&login=omni

The following also work, but are just synonyms for some of the links
above:

http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=unpaid
http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=undelivered
http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction?query=totals

It would be nice to set up a little form someplace for the donor and
buyer options. That would be something like:

<FORM METHOD=POST ACTION="http://www.grex.org/cgi-bin/auction">
<INPUT TYPE=hidden NAME=query VALUE=buyer>
<INPUT TYPE=text NAME=login SIZE=8>
<INPUT TYPE=submit>
</FORM>

(The program is just a simple little Perl program that runs the command
line program. It's a bit paranoid about quoting everything, but
otherwise no big deal. It's in /usr/local/www/cgi-bin/auction if you
want to look at it. One could do a lot to prettify the output, but I
wasn't feeling very inspired.)

Sorry, it's in /usr/local/libexec/cgi-bin/auction.
