It should be noted that if the credit card fee (what's that about anyway)
wasn't in there, we would've broke even this month.

We're setting up the capability to accept membership payments and other
donations via credit card. The fee is a one-time expense relating to
that.

So, is it now set up?

Not yet - we're waiting for the processing company to process the application.

Here's a question... Ig you're already a member, and you re-new by
money order, do you still have to submit id?

Nope - why would you have to?

Dunno, was just asking.

Re #7: That's about right, though in practice we are likely not to make their
minimum amount, so we will effectively pay a flat rate each month.

response 10 of 21: Mark Unseen   Dec 3 22:38 UTC 1999

So after this happens, which credit cards will grex be able to accept?

response 11 of 21: Mark Unseen   Dec 3 23:05 UTC 1999

The big name cards wanted too much money to process their
transactions, so initially Grex will only be accepting

Wisa ("it's everywhere in Eastern Europe that you want to be!"),
MisterCard ("accepted at more than 10 businesses worldwide"),
Rwandan Express ("don't flee home without it"),
    and "Discover".

(sorry, I don't actually have any idea which cards. Visa/MC?)

That's okay Anne, I was just wondering if I was missing something. Tis cool
to ask.

re #11: <danr smiles.>

Actually, Discover offers merchants a worse deal than either Visa or
Mastercard. That's one reason I (as Quality Technical Books, http://qtb.co
m)
don't except it.

response 14 of 21: Mark Unseen   Dec 4 09:18 UTC 1999

"Use wherever you see the Novus sign." Visa and Mastercard are high volume
cards, so they can afford to give good deals to everyone. This also allows
them to be pretty much ubiquitous, which means people are more likely to use
their cards, so it pays for businesses to carry them...

You get the idea. Amex and Discover are a bit rarer, and I suspect it has
something to do with them not being tied down to banks. I still get the
occasional person who asks if we take American Express.
aruba
response 15 of 21: Mark Unseen   Dec 4 14:42 UTC 1999

Yes, Visa & Mastercard are what we'll be able to accept.

Re #13: Actually, you DO except Discover: You accept the major bankcards,
but except AMEX & Discover. :-)

Dernit -- I wanted to use my Discover(R) Card and get up to 60 cents back
from my grex membership.

Re #17: It's a very commone mistake. I find it in headlines all the time
(especially my local Univ student paper's headlines)
