Thanks for the input. Isn't Todd already president of an online
system? Hm, I guess that counts as experience.
Actually, there's four steps to becoming president:
(1) Become a voting member by paying 3 months' dues.
(2) Get nominated for the board. (No sweat if you've done
(1), since you can nominate yourself.)
(3) Get elected to the board.
(4) Get the board members to elect you president.
I encourage Todd to carry out step (1) in order to initiate the
process. If he hurries, he can get in on this year's board
nominations.

Actually, the bylaws only require that potential board members be members at
the start of the voting period, not that they be voting members. And in fact
at least one person has been elected to the board while he was a non-voting
member.
And if that was confusing, what I mean is: you don't need to pay for 3 months'
dues to be eligible for election to the board. Paying for one or two months'
dues is enough.

On the other hand, would you vote for someone who only paid for one
month's membership?

No, you wouldn't, unless the member in question chose to tell you. I make a
point of welcoming new members, but I don't say how many mnoths' membership
they've paid for.
