Coop miscellaneous item Mark Unseen   Jul 24 18:33 UTC 1998

Use this item for miscellaneous things that don't seem to warrant their own
items.

Why was coop restarted at this particular time? It seems rather abrupt, as
I hadn't seen any recent discussion on a coop restart. How about some JIT
warning?

It was discussed a fair amount a few weeks ago. You can still join the
previous coop as "oldcoop".

I do agree with Kevin that an announcement that coop would be restarted
on such-and-such a day would have been appropriate, even perhaps with
information about what items would be carried over into it. When I
joined (new)coop I was, of course, only showed the first and last items,
but there were quite a few others, some old and some new. It wasted a little
time to check them all out to see if I had seen them before or not.
(I don't suppose my participation file in linked items could also be
linked....?)

Linking participation files would require a total redesign of Picospan.
We were tempted to support that with Backtalk, but it would have left
Backtalk incompatible with Picospan.

Someone should freeze the conference creation & deletion items right away.

I also would have appreciated a warning.

I was surprised by the restart, but that's ok. It needed to be done.

I'm currently reading this conference via Backtalk and find the
background color too dark for easy reading.

Linked items were a "late" addition to PicoSpan. Doing the "proper" thing
isn't as simple as it looks -- what happens when you "forget" an item in
one cf? Etc.

response 10 of 45: Mark Unseen   Jul 27 11:51 UTC 1998

Well, if you participation files were linked, you probably wouldn't *need*
to forget the thing in only one conference. Agreed that the design issues
are not simple, at all.

response 11 of 45: Mark Unseen   Jul 27 19:29 UTC 1998

Hold it right there, partner. I *want* forget to work in only one conference.
E.g. when someone links something from coop to agora, I don't want to read
it in agora, so I'll forget it there, *counting on the fact* that I'll be able
to read it in coop.

Clearly we need both "weak forget" and "strong forget" commands.

Or maybe not.

I was also surprised by the restart, but I got over it. 8-)

response 14 of 45: Mark Unseen   Jul 28 23:29 UTC 1998

So did I.

Hmm. Now that the conference creation/deletion logs are frozen, I find time
to ponder ... aren't the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws items normally
frozen, too?

Sorry to nitpick.

...and now void is *true-blue* fw of coop, instead of just in bannered
type at the beginning of teh confernence. (display login at Ok:)

nice, easy, smooth, transition ... the way *i* prefer it. how about you?

response 20 of 45: Mark Unseen   Sep 27 17:39 UTC 1998

I'm sorry about the abruptness of the restart. I, of course, was
working on it all along, so it wasn't abrupt to me. In the future, I
will try to provide warning.

i retired item 64, since it had more to do with a scheme of
questionable legality than it did with running grex.

I'm in lazy (or in a hurry, by your courtesy). Does grex have a policy
or practice on cutting off the access of people who harrass other grex
users? Or, more generally, does grex have a statement of conditions of
use or authorised use policy?
