Ages of Newusers Mark Unseen   Jun 11 17:25 UTC 1999

I quoted some age statistics in the ACLU declaration. Thought I'd share some
of the raw data. I pulled the birthdates out of the last 5000 newuser log
entries. Only about 3/4 of them had entered plausible years of birth or
ages. For those, the ages at the end of the year will be:
  1 83
  1 79
  7 76
  2 75

I didn't count people under 5. Of course, some of these people are probably
lieing. Assuming that half the 18 year-olds are already 18, I found that
about 20% of our users were minors.

Wow. But then it makes sense, since kids are much more comfortable with
computers than their parents.

My eyes are wide at that 20-26 age group. Wow. I'd say that's due to
those of us in college or being "raised" on computers while in
elementary/middle school.

We signed up a few over-50's who chose not to specify their ages. It is not
just the kids who want to remain anonymous. Online, you can always be 30,
or 49.

I suspect a lot of people over 26 have less free time than those under
26. The drop-off in the above figures looks a lot like the time when
people start having kids, which are notorious time sponges.

Are you saying I won't be on grex as much after this year? Wow...

Statistically, you'll be caring for your .8 babies next year.

I wasn't even planning that .2 babies for another couple of years.

Well, yes, but you're statistically overeducated.
