Cutting Edge Syquest-compatible 44MB cartridge drive
|
Jul 12 05:48 UTC 1996 |
Donated by Steve Sarrica via Rob Argy (ajax):
Cutting Edge Syquest-compatible 44MB cartridge drive, no docs,
no cable, no driver. This has two 25-pin female connectors on the
back, and I don't have the right kind of cable to test it. It's
designed for Macs, and I don't know if it's PC compatible. I'd
guess it works, but I don't know. You'll probably need a driver
program of some sort to mount the Syquest carts.

Cutting Edge, Inc. model CE-HDD, serial number 025643. It says "made
in USA," which would worry me if I believed it, but I'm sure the
internals are made in Asia. Probably just stuck the case on here.

Oh! I thought "Cutting Edge" meant it was the latest and greatest version;
didn't realize it was a brand name.

That's probably what the company's founders figured people would think. :-)
Re 4, yes, I'm pretty sure it's SCSI. The 25-pin SCSI connector is used on
the back of Macs, but usually not on SCSI devices or anything else, I don't
think. I haven't seen any 25-to-25 SCSI cables for sale, or I'd probably
bid on this. I suspect you could daisy-chain a Mac SCSI cable (25pin-to-
Centronics) from an external hard drive, to this Syquest drive...if I had
one to spare, I'd give it a try.
By the way, this size Syquest drive is somewhat obsolete, as the 100 and
135 meg Zip and Syquest drives are now in the $120-$150 range, and are
rapidly gaining popularity. However, most service bureaus still take
44MB Syquests, and places like Kinkos use them, so they're a handy format
if you do scanning or printing at such places.

If it's designed for the Mac, that probably means it's SCSI, and it soudns
fun to play with.
$5.
