Performance of "Into the Night"
|
Jun 21 18:34 UTC 1996 |
Donated by Kae Anne Chappel (otter):
Many grexers have expressed interest in seeing Kenn (wolfmage) perform, but
most of his shows lately have been for private groups and corporations, with
no access to "outsiders".
Direction 7 would like to donate a performance of "Into the Night" for a group
of up to 30 people at a non-public location of the winning bidder's choice.
We would suggest (but not require) that the buyer then make a certain number
of seats at the event available for open bidding.
We are excited about doing this, and see is as a great opportunity to help
enhance grex's bank account.
A short set of conditions:
--keep the location within Michigan, preferably south of Cadillac
--the performance site must be non-public, but a private room at a restaurant
(or somesuch) would be fine
--bidder/host will need to provide adequate seating for the audience (not just
on the floor)
--the date will be subject to our booking schedule, and cannot be changed by
either party once it has been set

otter has asked for a minimum bid of $50, which seems
fair to me. Let the bidding commence!

That's more than fair, and I *highly* recommend the show. I've seen it twice,
and it is excellent...let me stress *excellent*.

Me neither. Not that I'd buy the thing, but a ticket maybe.

_Into the Night_ ... What if ghost stories are real?
Enter the nocturnal world of spirits, wizards, vampyres, and things that go
*shriek* in the night.
Professional magician and storyteller Kenn J. Capman is your host, inviting
you to join him on a tour into a world of strange and bizarre happenings.
"Intense images which challenge the imagination..." --Gaylord Herald Times
"Shattering the stereotypical image of the magician." --Blissfest Programme
"Your 'Into the Night' show is a unique experience to be sure. It was a
wonderful compliment to the turn of the century atmosphere at the Otsego Lake
Inn. The strange stories and breathtaking magic are a powerful combination
that left many guests speechless and awestruck. There almost seemed to be a
static charge in the parlor during the show, which only enhanced the spooky
feeling you created. Thank heaven for the comedy relief throughout the show."
--Charles and Tracy Booth, Proprieters

OK, gang, that's straight from the promo material.
We have run this show for many different audiences in various venues.
The closest thing we've had to a complaint was when the Gaylord townsfolk
tried to burn us on the courthouse lawn for exposing their children to
witchcraft. >8^o
It's a collection of bizarre stories illustrated by magical effects.
It's more fun than grown-ups should be allowed to have.
If you see it, you will *never* forget it. I promise.

p.s. If the cost seems prohibitive, grab some friends and bid as a group.
We're talking about 30 seats, here. 8^}

I'm tempted to bid on this, but I guess I should think of a location first.

Know anyone with a house that has a big living/dining room or a tolerable
basement?

You may want to go talk to the owner of the Gypsy Cafe. The back of his
restaurant has seating, at small tables, for maybe 30 or more. There is a
little stage up front. Evidently they hold poetry reading here and
musical performances there from time to time.
I asked about reserving this space for another group and he seemed very
accommodating. The expectation is that the audience would order coffee, at
least, but that's not so bad. It's a nice space.

(When we ate lunch at the Gypsy Cafe here in Ann Arbor, everyone thought that
would be the perfect venue for this show. They have a nice little back room
with a nice little stage.)

I would advise all of you to read the original post. Tickets must be
*auctioned off* (not sold) to grexers only. Also, the show must take place
in southern Michigan. I'm sending e-mail to key players in a little while.
