A peace lily plant (easy to grow!)
|
Jun 2 01:25 UTC 1996 |
Donated by Valerie Mates (popcorn):
A peace lily plant. Peace lilies have long green leaves, and occasionally
they put out a long stalk with a white spade-like flower on the end. They
do best when they don't have a lot of sunlight. They're very easy to care
for. This is partly because the plant announces *very* clearly when it is
overdue for a watering, by making all its leaves very floppy. Once you water
it, the leaves perk right up again. You'll find you've seen peace lily plants
in office buildings. They look reasonably impressive.
This is not mailable. I'll deliver it in the Washtenaw County area; if you
live further afield, please plan to come here to pick it up.

Valerie, can you bring it to Grexstock? My house is in need of plants that
require little light. If so, I will bid $10.

Okay, robh, is this your attempt to up the bidding or do you really want the
plant? Hmmmm? $14. (haven't you already got enough money from me?) %}

(I really do want the plant, but am perfectly content to drive
up the bidding as well, if you're the one who ends up paying. >8)

I've got more than one spare peace lily plant. Rob, yours was the second-
place bid, at $15. If you'd like to buy it through the auction, at $15, I'll
be happy to donate a second peace lily.

(Hey cool! To respond to a frozen item in a conference where I'm the fair
witness, I've always done thaw/respond/freeze, as three separate commands.
But actually it works to just respond to the item. Learn something new every
day....)

(For those keeping track of auction money received, it should
be noted that I have paid $15 for an additional lily.)
