Autographed Copies of Brighn's Novel Mark Unseen   May 11 12:34 UTC 1996

Donated by Paul Kershaw (brighn):
Three copies of my novel, published a few years back (The Search for the
Rabbit, P. Luc Valloglise {then my pen-name}, Lorien House, 1989), signed
by the author. And just because that's the way I am, I;'ll throw in my
DTP booklet versions of "The Forest Suite" (a poem, Selena's 22 birthday
gift) and "Allister MacAllister" (a short story I made up i booklet form
just because I felt like it).

[The novel goes to the three highest bidders. The poem and short story,
assuming there is one copy of each, both go to the highest bidder along
with the novel. -vm]

(The booklets are from my own printer, so yeah, there'll be thre
copies of each...)

I'll start off at $10.

This applies to all the items with multiple copies of things:
remember that the top *3* bids will get this, so if someone
starts high, you can bid lower than them and still get a chance
to get the item... not that I'm encouraging low bids, just that I'm
terminally modest except when I'm in my prima donna (prime don? --
what's the masculine, anyone? Anyone? Buehler?)...
anyway, I'd say a minimum bid for this would be $5.  =}
I'll stop editorializing my own donation now. Bubye.

*trying to encourage bids here =} *
Especially the booklets, since I'm not planning on running off more
than a half dozen or so. *g*

Val suggests having a plot might help...
O.k., The Search for the Rabbit was written as a sequel of sorts
to the Alice in Wonderland books by Lewis Carroll. The protagonist
is Allisson Liddell, Alice's grand-neice, and she's brought back
to Wonderland because the White Rabbit is missing. I've been told
that some elementary teachers were using this for their classes,
though the book was written more for adults than for children, and
some of the vocabulary might be a little high for the youngest tots.
There's a lot of different adventures, poetry, interesting (and new
) characters... most people who've read it have been impressed,
including one person who picked it up off his wife's bookshelf not knowing it
was was mine. I realize from readingg #1 I may have given the impression this
was vanity pressed. It wasn't. This is a real publisher; the book just
happens to be out of print, and I have some copies laying about. The booklets
are bonusses; one is a poem that is currently awainting response from Green
Egg, the other is a short story about a murderous leprechaun... both are great
fun, and are printed up nice and spiff for display. Heck, you can even specify
paper color for the booklets if you want... =} (I have white, beige, gray,
pink, and lilac.) I set the minimum bid at $5, but they're worth a lot more
than that to me... won't you please give these fine works of literature a home?

I've read some of Brighn's writing on Grex; I like it a lot. I'd expect this
book to be good too....

I won't bid on this, because I already have a copy of it. I haven't had time
to finish it yet, but it's a good book from what I've read of it so far.

response 18 of 23: Mark Unseen   May 22 15:33 UTC 1996

by the way, equal value bids are problematic -- we now have $11, $10, and $10
but it's unclear which of the three people who bid $10 would be getting books.
robh
response 19 of 23: Mark Unseen   May 22 16:06 UTC 1996

Indeed, it is a problem. From this point on, I'd appreciate it
if nobody puts in a bid equal to any other bid. At least tack
on an extra penny, that way we won't have any ambiguity.

To do my own part to remove the ambiguity, I bid $15.

robh
response 21 of 23: Mark Unseen   May 24 13:28 UTC 1996

robh
response 22 of 23: Mark Unseen   May 28 02:10 UTC 1996

Two days to go on the current bids. Going, going, ...
robh
response 23 of 23: Mark Unseen   May 30 18:57 UTC 1996

And the bidding is closed, and the three items are SOLD to
freida ($16), robh ($15), and janc ($11).
