Everybody Talks About the Weather
|
Apr 11 18:17 UTC 2002 |
In the winter we complain about the cold and snow; in the summer we
whine about the heat. In spring there's just not much to say about
the weather. Gosh, it's lovely out today...

I work in an office with no windows where it is roughly the same temp
all year round (which is why I have to bring a sweater in the summer).
It bums me out that I dont get to appreciate nice days like this. OH
well.

I have never seen more people gathered at Gallop Park than
today, about 5:30 p.m. Not even on a summer holiday. It
was a party for spring.

Welcome to Spring, Grex! (at last) :)
Texas is riotous with colour, a couple of weeks behind schedule. Columbines
are just beginning to erupt into yellow starbursts.

We've had spurts of good weather since February or so-- March snow was
kinda weird-- but despite intermittent clouds in April, we've been
enjoying sun in Eastern Washington.

Late last night I heard the frogs croaking in a marshy spot nearby..
I guess it really *is* spring -- it's been a little hard to tell lately.

We saw at least 15 painted turtles sunning themselves on rocks or islands in
the river today. And the first mosquito. The chickweed is in bloom as is
the river alder.

I forgot about the mosquitoes, but I suppose they, too, are signs of
the changing season. I was attacked by a swarm of them on Easter Sunday
when I interupted my walk in the foothills of the Cascades to admire a
waterfall.

Yes, it's a beautiful day of shorts, sundresses and halter-type attire on
beautiful women. I'm too old. When they smile at me now, I know it's because
they miss their grandfathers.
Can spring be enjoyed while I'm making Faustian calculations?

In Michigan we're expecting the 70s and 80s this week. It's going to
be a nice week, except it's supposed to rain tonight and Wednesday.

I could live at a nice constant 68-72 range. This sudden 82-degree
weather caught me off guard.

Good. I'm getting tired of hearing my neighbor's A/C unit straining
for breath. They don't seem to have realized that the apartment
complex's maintenance people haven't removed the winter covers from the
condensor vents, yet.

Weather in Syracuse today: Earthquake, rain, turned sunny, and now a bit
cool, but still sunny.
Around 6:30am, there was an earthquake, centered around Plattsburgh, NY.
I woke up and wondered why my bed was shaking. I ended up getting a
flashlight and checking under the bed to make sure it wasn't just a
practical joke. The US Geological Survey reports that it was a 5.1 on
the Richter scale. (However, their Canadian counterparts said it was a
5.5. Must be the conversion rate :) )

The Detroit forecast is fun. Possible sleet Sunday afternoon, and
snow likely Sunday night. Guess I have to get an early start
on mowing the lawn Sunday.
