The 'Dubbya is a Moron' Item
|
Jun 5 20:15 UTC 2002 |
BUSH'S GENERAL EDUCATION
Do you have blacks in Brazil?
It is said, that, before September 11, George W. Bush thought the Taliban were
a Bavarian brass band. Now, thanks to his comprehensive knowledge, the most
powerful man in the world has got into hot water again.
Rice helped Bush from the leave in the lurch
Washington - It was Condoleezza Rice, national security advisor, who helped
her boss out of the embarassing situation. During a conversation between the
two presidents, George W. Bush, 55, (USA) and Fernando Henrique Cardo so, 71,
(Brazil), Bush bewildered his colleague with the question "Do you have blacks,
too?"
Rice, 47, noicing how astonished the Brazilian was, saved the day by telling
Bush "Mr. President, Brazil probably has more blacks than the USA. So me say
it's the Country with the most blacks outside Africa." Later, the Brazilian
president Cardoso said: regarding Latin America, Bush was still in his
"learning phase".
Equally terrifying: the American media did not report the incident. There
seems to be an unwritten rule that while it's ok to acknowledge Bush's lack
of "intellectual curiosity", any hard evidence of utter stupidity must be
covered up.
The incident was reported outside the U.S.. For example, by the prestigious
German news magazine Der Spiegel. Here's a translation of the article (with
a link to the original German article): http://gwbush.com/copies/trans.shtm

Iwasn't there, I did not witness the exchange. Neither did any of you. Can
you prove it wasn't just a slip of the tongue? Didn't think so.

Can you prove it was? This isn't a matter of mixing up words, which I'm
willing to give him a pass on.

Yeah, we all know Bush is hardly a genius. Quite some time before
the election I noted (as a troll on a "conservative" web forum) that
he'd been appointed as the candidate by the PTB and that said PTB
would do just about anything to keep him from being challenged (so
he'd owe them if/when he got in). Of course, the "ownership" is
hardly exclusive to George W.; trial lawyers and unions own many
Dems, to give just one example from the left side of the aisle.
George H. W. made a similar mistake in 1992, where he showed that he
had little idea what the populace deals with by being totally ignorant
of grocery-store checkout scanners. George W.'s gaffe only affects a
few foreigners and some voters who wouldn't have voted for him anyway;
hardly an issue, in political terms. On broader policy his brain trust
will help him to get it mostly right (by their lights, with which I
have many deep disagreements).
What truly amazes me is that someone so inept at public speaking could
get even *close* to a popular majority. Must've been the lousy quality
of the competition....

Der Spiegel is the *only* source for this, and they don't mention their
source.

re #4: Gee, Bruce, you didn't witness the alleged vandalism for which
the GAO found no evidence at the White House at the end of Clinton's
term. Can you prove it happened? Didn't think so.

re: 10
In all fairness, the alleged vandalism was widely reported in several media
outlets. In fact, it was somewhat difficult to avoid hearing about it, the
week it supposedly happened.
That's quite a contrast between an event that allegedly happened in South
America, involving an American president, and reported in a German-language
news article, with no attribution. The subtle language differences alone are
rather substantial.

re: russ " George H. W. made a similar mistake in 1992, where he showed that
he
had little idea what the populace deals with by being totally ignorant
of grocery-store checkout scanners." Actually, what in fact this
involved was not the simple operation of checkout scanners, but the
fact that the scanner could read a bar code that had been mangled/
mutilated - a fact that I am reasonably sure would surprise many
(if not a majority of) persons.
