Well, to play you have to donate $1000 to charity and write an essay
justifying the scientific or societal importance of your bet. This is
not a game Joe AOL is going to be playing a lot.

I like the one on "The universe will eventually stop expanding." which can
only be won when the universe reverses (if it never stops expanding the
bet is never won).

Balderdash. Please present what you consider would be a proof.

That is the argument in favor of expanding forever, but since we don't
understand the underlying mechanism of that, we can say what might
eventuate. Especially with the "dark matter" apparently accelerating
the expansion - and we have little idea of what "dark matter" is. Even
after you know all that, something else could show up that affects the
very long term expansion, not feature of which we have detected in our
very energetic universe.

Re #3: You also don't get the money if you win -- no matter who wins, the
money goes to charity. So it's not really a 'bet' in the traditional sense,
it's a charitable donation with the ability to have a brief public debate
attached.

The charitable donation for the bet on the expansion of the universe
will never be made. Wanna bet?

Not badly enough to put up $1000, but it *is* tempting. Talk about
open-ended...
