I watched Dark Angel tonight and am keeping an eye on ALCS game one between
New York and Seattle. Also saw a particularly intense rerun of Voyager earlier
in the evening.

Just watched the debut episode of GIDEON'S CROSSING, the new medical
show on ABC. It's a delight to see Andre Braugher -- formerly
Frank Pembleton on HOMICIDE -- back in a show again. The show is
sort of a slower-paced version of ER.

I watched the baseball game last night. The Seattle Mariners took game
1 from the New York Yankees, 2-0. The American League Championship
Series (ALCS) goes 7 games; the winner goes to the World Series.
Tonight I'll watch some of the presidential debate.

We watched JAG last night (I wasn't impressed, but hten I'm a Buffy fiend);
then tried Dark Angel (I didn't like it) and clicked over to Angel (which is
quite good, amazingly); then something on salt mines from Discovery.

The Practice is back to its usual stuff. I guess they were winning too
many cases, and now they have to pay. The characters still have their
charm and flair. The stories still have some bite.
Dark Angel is only mildly interesting. Sort of a "the Fugitive" for the
young and daring set. The woman is red-hot, but the plots so far have
been thin. Up to now, just eye-candy.
Gideon's Crossing is an interesting piece of drama. The critics love
it, and I thought it was challenging, which is good. This means that
it probably won't last the season. Where were the potty breaks? :)
In any case, a decent show that may require some patience. (pun at no
charge)
Third Watch followed the story of the woman cop as she met a personal
crisis and made a dramatic choice. My guess is that they are trying to
spice up the show with more controversy to keep it alive. I'm finding
less and less connection to me and between the characters.
Voyager - the final season. Please, let it end. The premise that
the command crew could become borg and still retain personal identities
and free will based upon a virus implanted in their system was just
sad. It won't get any better since by some "miracle" Voyager gets
home by the end of the season.
The West Wing is clearly the cream of the new season. Stunningly strong
portrayals and stories that keep you interested. Josh falls and the
story follows the formation of the inner circle during the election that
put them in the White House. I'm clearly hooked and won't be missing
any episodes.
CSI is forensics in a gritty, gouge your nails into the wall sort of
drama. Contention within the ranks from the very beginning. Tricky,
but not brainy. The characters get to show some nice quirks and
frustrations while producing magical results. May be shallow. May be
deep. Hard to tell from the one episode.
JAG in Russia part one and part two was shallow, frustrating, and
feeble. Harm goes to advise the Soviets on how to improve their legal
system and then goes off on a tangent that takes him to Chechnia(sp?)
in search of an embedded arms dealer. Yow, warn me next time before
you turn INTO traffic.

Dark Angel was much too slow-paced and the production values too cheesy. If
they can get those things straightened out, it could be interesting.
Gideon's Crossing was pretty good. I think that show will be a winner.

Saw the premiere for Deadline on tape last night. I was disappointed, but I
don't know how much of that is because I knew some of the "twists" from the
promos they ran a bazillion times during the Olympics.
My favorite part: The relationship between Platt and his soon-to-be-ex. Cat
and smarm city.

Dark Angel gave me pains. They tried to make her *too* tough, it was
predictable, and the plot was very very thin. Simply eye candy.

West Wing is entering its second season, so it's not new. Unfortunately, I
probably *will* miss some episodes; I have another commitment on Wednesday
evenings.
I wanted to see Gideon's Crossing, but not as much as I wanted to see Judging
Amy, another returning show.

I had the good fortune to miss the debate. I've been flipping between hockey,
highlights, and, at 1, the 1979 cotton bowl. That'll be good.

The District with perennial tv actor Craig T. Nelson. Cop show from
an administrative perspective. I've always liked Nelson's bull in a
china shop style which translates from comedy to drama. This is all
drama, here. We have to see how this fleshes out, but initially it
is tough but friendly. Of course the bad guys are not so much on the
street, but in the bureacracy.
ED is this year's dive into Northern Exposure quirkyness. Actually,
nicely done so far with the best line spoiled by the promotions...
"Actually, I'm a Lawyer and I own a Bowling Alley. Two different things."
With the cast of characters ranging from stiff to odd, this show may have
some amazing staying power. No reason to not get drawn in.
Welcome to New York is just plain goofy. Midwest guy steps into another
world of self-centered, smoke-em if you got 'em behind the scenes
politics of a local TV morning show in a metropolitan area. Ensemble
situation comedy formula searching for a new twist. These usually
require a strong personality or two to drive the show. It may happen.
That's Life is a spinning top of environmental madness. Heather Page
Kent plays a brooklyn woman trying to break out of her closed loop life
and grow wings. Mary Tyler Moore in financial crisis. Even with
Paul Sorvino as the dad, this might collapse under it's own weight of
crisis management. Without trouble, this show has no basis.
Bette was amazingly funny. Midler does have some great comedic skills
with her "over the top" butterfly act. I'm not that big a fan of
Bette the stage actress/singer, but her style fits nicely in the
"I Love Lucy" mold. This kind of energy may get old, but she works
her ass off at it. As situation comedies go, this has the personality
power of "Home Improvement."
Two Guys and a Girl makes me ashamed that I bothered. This isn't
quirky any more; it's a story about mutual flagellation. Mean people
doing stupid things and then becoming victims when the revenge comes.
Everybody Loves Raymond has something I can't possibly explain. It
seems dumb. However, I watch this show and every time it's over I
think I ate a meal. This is a family story gone horribly wrong and
it's wonderful entertainment. Ray Romano does nothing for me, but that
surrounding cast is marvelous. If someone came up to me and said what
this show is all about, I'd never watch it. Yet, it works, and does
it quite well.
Becker is the surly doctor with the cynical New York attitude. He
vocalizes every pain and agony he encounters with the sharpness of a
scalpel. I'm not sure why this show has staying power, but I let it
play its sad melody for me. Nobody on the show gets what they want,
how they want it, ever. Most likely, they are punished or they punish
themselves. Wallowing in self-flagellation, I guess. Yet, from the
outside view this rat maze is rather funny.
City of Angels relies on the shoulders of Blair Underwood to carry the
load as an overworked, idealistic, management outsider, surgical director
of an inner-city hospital. Gosh, can this guy have any more superhuman
qualities for a man being stepped on? His struggle is not one of race,
but it mirrors it. Once again the administration is the evil overlord,
with the faces of charm, leadership, and underhanded deals. Yet, our
hero perseveres, because his goal is save lives and teach and find his
next lover. I watched last season, hoping for more, but this really
is a one man show.
Texas Walker - I watched this when I was bored. A mad landlord trys to
blow up his own building while innocent tenants refuse to be evicted.
Children must be saved and Chuck Norris is the man to run into the
crumbling building to do it. Bah. Weak storyline, enemies too evil,
heros too lucky.

Forgot ER. Well now, I'm not telling the story, but they always seem to
find the grabber. This first show of the season is in the middle of
a custodial strike, and that's just the beginning. With more twists
and turns than a mountain road, I can't imagine how they keep it up, but
they clearly do. The energy this show displays could generate enough
power to run Las Vegas. And you don't feel like a ping-pong ball, as
you do in other dramas trying to build the energy.
Friends is like thriving on sexual innuendo. Ross and Rachael, Monica and
Chandler, Joey and Rachael, Ross and anything with a skirt. Oh, and by
the way, hurt feelings all over the place. This thing is driven purely
on sexuality now. Shall we end this once and for all? Put everyone in
one room and tarp the walls. Then this show can be replaced.

As I do not have cable, antenna, or anything else at the moment to watch TV
other than an extensive video supply, my TV watching is right now taped copies
of Kindred the Embraced, and the entire Twin Peaks saga. :) Ah, the good
stuff...

was pulling for her. unfortunately, i found the show lame. too bad.
finally got to see the two hour west wing season opener. i continue to be
impressed. it made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me introspective. great
performances and very very tight and wonderful writing and direction. if
there is a better show on television i am unaware of it.
