There are lots of implementations of list-serving software. MajorDomo and
Lyris come immediately to mind. I know that Lyris is commercial software,
so you probably won't be able to get its source. I don't know about
majordomo; you might try poking around ftp.greatcircle.com

A lot of the mailing lists I'm on seem to prefer ezmlm to majordomo. FWIW.

Take ric's advice in #2 and set up a mailing list on egroups.com. Another
service I use for mailing lists is listbot.com.

I manage an email list on egroups. It's been quite reliable and easy to
work with. It does insert a short ad into each message, but it's at the
very bottom where it's easy to ignore.

i am trying to get a cgi site to trigger a mailing though, a local news
station has given me permission but they can't help me with the scripting.

I still think egroups will do exactly what you want to do, but let me ask you a
few questions:

1. Who is going to trigger the mailing. That is, who is going to originate the
message?

2. What is the message going to consist of?

3. Who is going to receive the mailing?
