You know what this means, don't you? Call 1-800-995-0796 from every
pay phone you go past. It costs them money without giving them anything
worthwhile (if you call them from home, they get your home phone number).
Costing a spammer money is a great way to return the favor.

I get about 20 of these emails every day...seriously. If I called each one from
a payphone I'd never have time to do anything.

That doesn't work for 800 numbers, for which the number being called from is
part of the number being called to's billing information.

Spamming is a serious thing.. my mail box is filled with all sorts of
nonsense with pornographic overtones. Surprisingly all the mails are
sent from reputed universities in UK... I always forward the mail to
the postmaster and it appears again in different name everytime... I
can't block the sender too as they keep changingsysadmins say they
don't have users on the mentioned names and somebody is just using
their name.........
Can you guys help me out????////

I had the same problem a few years ago. I simply responded
to their mail by sending along Martha Stewart recipes. Worked
great. They took me off their mail list.

Probably the spam in #6 is actually "forged", and may have been sent
from some quite different location. There are lots of FAQs out on how
to interpret the headers and effectively complain. There are also
places you can send your e-mail that will read the headers and complain
for you.
If you got this mail on grex, if you can send it, together with
*complete headers*, to uce@cyberspace.org, it will be automatically
archived, and at some point, sendmail on grex *may* become smart enough
to recognize spam that fits patterns and can therefore be automatically
filtered. !finger uce@cyberspace.org
for more information on that address. 'H' in pine can be used to toggle
the display of full headers.

Note that you have to go into Setup in Pine and enable the Header command
before the program will trust you with it.
Some Universities also have lax sendmail setups and end up getting used to
forward spam.

"Some universities".. here in the states? No way; they're long gone.
Open relays tend to be all located in japan, india, or Korea these days.
That language barrier thing, plus differing expectations of what the
internet is for, is really useful for spammers.

Michigan Tech was an open relay as little as two years ago.

re 9. I believe the enable header command is already X'd in when
you set up Pine in Grex. It has to be deselected by the user for it
not to work.
