sean's comments on ethan and megans wedding Mark Unseen   Nov 28 05:39 UTC 2000

Having seen Megan for the first time, I was amazed at how pretty she
really was. What a nice looking person done up for this wedding day.
Mary and me went intot he church, St Huberts in HOffman Estates Illinois,
and sat down, and I went to look for Ethan.
It was the first time I had met Ethan, and I shook his hand. GOod luck.

The ceremony was beautiful, filled with much joy.

   The reception was cool.

Megan and EThan met on the internet. Megan saw a picture of me in 1996.

Mary and me met on the internet, here on grex.

Mary and Megan went to the same college.

Internet love is possible, and its possible it can go all the way to
marriage.

The factis thou, you really have to meet other gerxxers face to face.
Im glad I met Mary face to face and now am in the middle (early stages rather,
of what I think is so far a very gentle trusting relationship.

My friends, over a year ago some grexxers played a trick on you. It was
lied to you that I died in an accident.

Both Megan and Mary cried, and like many of you they searched for an
obituary and thought of driving or flying to a funeral.

When it was learned by you the truth and reality that I was alive many
of you were happy, and I of course am still shaking hands and hugging many
of you face to face, whoom previously I had not known if not for grex.

Our task is not done, it has only started.

We must all of us on grex selfishly pursue meeting one another.

I drove 12 hours to meet Mary. 12 hours. For almost four years I
spoke with her on grex. Not every day but a goodly number of days.

How many of you talk to people a long time but never met. Why havent
you met. Ok not everyone is going to just go knocking on a doorstep after
a 12 hour drive, but meet in public, metet in a group, travel and meet.

meet in a group

look, do you sit here and type you love someone? have you met them?

what if its like ethan and me, where practically every day since 1997
that ive loged on hes said hello

and i had to wait to see him after a long time

and in person he and i got along great

so please, meet one another, not just for romances sake but for
friendship sake

we plan these grex get toghethers, but i dont know how successful they are

i suggest a big one be planned,
where emails are sent out and interested party's are put on a mailing list,
and letters are sent out, and a fund be raised specifically for this purpose,

i suggest a day, some saturday afternoon in june or july, or august, when
we try to get together with as many people as possible

ive suggested this before and if no one comes forward ill take the fucking
bull by the horns and do it myself,

so someone out there with better planning skills than me (and who isnt joining
the air force) step forward please,
we are ready to meet each other now

now is the time to start planning

I'm still quite sad that I was unable to make the wedding. I suspect that's
something I'll never really be able to make up for. Meeting in person is...
entirely strange.

For the login-id-aware: Ethan is cb311, Megan is winipooh, and I
think Mary is eloria.

Sean's right -- internet love is possible. I met my Mary online,
and we chatted electronically for some time before meeting face-
to-face.

Ethan and Megan are the second couple I know of who met on Grex
and subsequently married. Can you name the first?

I know a LOT of people who have gotten married after meeting on M-Net or Grex.

edina/gaz got married two weeks after meeting for the first time. (gaz had
come to the united states to visit her from ireland!)

It was 2 and 1/2 weeks. Every day counts, Richard:)

I find it no differnt to have met Gary online than to have gotten drunk in
a bar and gone home with him - if anything, I find it more respectable. Noone
knows where they will find someone with whom to start sharing their life.
In my opinion, anywhere you find someone who is honest and loving and kind
is a good enough place.

I used to have a list of the Grexers I had met. And the list was starting
to top 100 when I was doing that. And I had some VERY scary experiences,
which leads me to be more cautious when meeting people offline. I know so
many people from before, from the Grex birthday, people I went to high school
with, friends we have met... We used to do GNO (Grex Nights Out). But
arbitrarily just saying "go meet them" can be dangerous.

I'm happy for both couples. It can happen, but it takes some very mature
special people who want to make it work. There are a lot of people who are
not what they seem. So go for it, just be careful.

But that happens with people who meet in more normal circumstances as well.

of course. but I also still believe in chemistry of two people when they meet
or in each other's company. Personally, I am very wary now of using the
internet or chatting devices as anything other than a means of communication.
But like I said, it's based on experiences I had with individuals that I met
offline after knowing them online first.

I think what you're talking about is something equivellent to the original
vision for Grexstock. The first Grexstock was actually pretty big, and did
include a bunch of people who hadn't met eachother before. Another gathering
like that, or even bigger, would be pretty cool. Getting all those people
together in one place may be easier said than done, but I wish you luck.

The thing to do is for the Board to set money aside for a party and invite
all grexers to it.

response 15 of 23: Mark Unseen   Nov 30 14:57 UTC 2000

With monies specifically contributed for that cause... perhaps that's
something to keep in mind.

There have, in the past, been frequent parties that all Grexers have been
invited to. They've generally been fun parties. I don't think they're
anything new. I don't think many of them have drawn much of an out of town
crowd, but the Grex birthday celebration generally gets a few people coming
in from other parts of Michigan.

Next summer will be Grex's tenth anniversary. M-net made a fair
production out of its tenth birthday party, back in 1993 or so.
