Get long-unused clothing out of the closet so there is room for the
stuff I actually wear.

Play with cassette recorder to determine if it really has an
electronic problem; if it does, get it in to be fixed.

Get a new stylus for the turntable. Get the receiver (1983 vintage)
shipped off for a factory rebuild.

Get some concert reviews written out for the Music Conference.

Krj, may Jim take a look at your tape recorded? He has fixed a lot of them
with mechanical problems that appeared to be electrical. Often the head or
belt or something needs cleaning (in one case it needed a new groove).

1. Figure out why my ISP stopped working with Arachne and Newdeal at about
5 pm yesterday (but they work with another ISP and this first ISP works with
Netscape).

2. Figure out why Netscape can access Russian websites in KOI-8 or Win
CP-1251 font, but Arachne can do one or the other, depending in which order
you load the fonts. (Only the one loaded second works and you cannot load
the first one on top of it). But I cannot do this without an ISP.

3. Do a translation that arrived by Fed-Ex in the middle of the above
interesting problems.

4. Convince Jim to go build a house instead of putting together a computer
for Arachne (which is not working at the moment).

5. Set up this computer with Arachne and Cyrillic and teach our Russian
friends how to use it to read the news in Russian in CP-1251, and to see
photographs of St. Petersburg at the St. P. Tech University site. If anyone
else wants to see the photos or read the news in the meantime, see
www.grex.org/~wings (and send David a short e-mail).

The rest of the list is too long to fit here and involves building a house.

((The problem with the tape recorder involves the signal overloading
and distorting on type II tape. Cleaning and demagnatizing were done.
If I'm not imagining the problem, then it's almost certainly an
electronic component having gone bad. I had this happen on another
machine once, but never resolved it. It also may just be that this
one CD track is not transferrable to cassette except at a greatly
reduced volume...))

Are you moving out of state, or just one of those people who cannot decide
what to take on a short trip so takes everything? Or are you a packrat?

Ashke is moving across the city. Well from Dexter to Ann Arbor. And packing
up an apartment is a time consuming event.

You're not kidding. I'm changing to a smaller office at the U, after
accumulating stuff in one office for a couple of decades. You almost
have to relive those decades as you choose between keep/toss.

response 18 of 32: Mark Unseen   Nov 22 23:07 UTC 2000

Packing is progressing, and jenn is correct :) it is time consuming.
Although I should be done before schedule, if not definatly ontime. And if
I happen to be arrested for assault or manslaughter, or even murder of my
current asshole, er...roommate, then it's all ready to go into storage (see
bummed item) I'm rather impressed actually. Not that much for packratting
lately. Not as much garbage as I had thought there would be. But I started
doing garbage management and pre-packing a while ago. I knew this would be
coming. Now all I have to do is put the stuff in boxes or bags and it's done
in my room. Living room is done other than computer stuff and the TV set up.

So...pack
pack
bag u p and pack
restrain from killing Sir Dickhead
pack
put laundry in car to do tomorrow for free
get ready for turkey day

Finish a few things in new apartment so Cats don't kill themselves or get
killed when I return.
Take friend home after she stayed the week with me
Look into cel ph one, either real or prepaid cel
Make list of things needed for new place including groceries (yes< I would
like to eat....eventually....), kitchen stuff, and perhaps some dishes or
silverware. The only misshap was letting him sort the silverware before I
left. He just took some of it, and didn't pay attention to patterns, etc.
So I a missing part of my set that i had before I moved in, and a lot of junk
his parents gave us.
Survive work
Sleep
Relax....
