The fall Grexwalk item
|
Sep 23 12:38 UTC 2000 |
Join us for a Grex Walk!
(Grexwalk directions originally by Mark Conger (aruba)
Every Saturday morning between 10 and 10:15 a bunch of Grexers meet at
Gallup Park for a walk through the Arboretum, followed by lunch at a
local eatery. If you've been to one of these, you know what they're
like; if not, this is an opportunity to meet and socialize with other
Grex folks and get some exercise in the bargain. Plus the Arboretum is
really beautiful this time of year.
We meet in the parking lot just off Fuller Road, opposite Huron High
School, just west of Huron Parkway. Here's a small map:

Gallup Park
Grexers meet in the parking lot near where the "*" is.
The walk usually gets underway at
about 10:20, so don't worry about being a few minutes late. If you
don't know what anybody looks like, just look for a bunch of people
standing around together who don't appear that they could have anything
whatsoever in common with one another. Those are the Grexers (we're
easy to spot!)
The walk usually takes a bit over an hour, so people usually make it to
the lunch debriefing between 11:30 and 12:00. Feel free to come to
the walk but not lunch, or the lunch but not to the walk. Everything's
very informal.
Currently we pick a different place for lunch each week. Watch this
item and make suggestions if you have a favorite place that we could
visit. With few exceptions, any restaurant that receives a nomination
and a second will be put on the list for a future debriefing.
Also, the first Saturday of each month we walk in Bird Hills rather than the
Arb. Here's some directions:
If you're coming out of downtown Ann Arbor, get yourself on Miller road
(if you are on Huron St headed out of town, turn right on Ashley or
seventh and then left on Miller). From Miller turn right on Newport Rd
(there is a stop sign and maybe a flashing light at the intersection).
Follow Newport Rd until it crosses a highway bridge (M14). Immediately
after the highway bridge, there is a dirt parking lot on your right,
kind of sunken out of sight. Park there. Look for Grexers.

It is, kind of. Unfortunately I wasn't looking at a real map when I drew
it.

Perhaps we don't want to know what you were looking at when you drew it..

You mean the 30th? It's a game day, so it's a good candidate.

I mentioned this in email to a visiting Grexer, and there's more support for
this coming Saturday.
Only one day left for people to back out...?

Uh oh. It's lynne versus carson.... The only difference being that this
weekend is a game day and next weekend isn't. And since I hadn't heard from
carson, I scheduled it for this weekend.
Um. Carson, you can either throw a total fit, or maybe you can settle for
picking the restaurant for next week?
D'oh.

Leslie and I, on the other hand, could go to Dexter this weekend, but not

Today's walk was attended by scott, danr, aruba, Carol, arlo, janc, valerie,
lynne, and special guest dog Sam.
Lunch included almost all of the above (except lynne and Sam, who really just
wanted to watch the Michigan game) with the addition of krj, drew, tpryan,
and Sylvia.

Well, I made it to the walk yesterday, for the first time in
many months. Walkers besides myself were humans arlo, aruba,
Carol, chanur, danr, janc, kaplan, and valerie, and non-humans
Barney and Mutsie. The non-humans encountered and socialized
with various other non-humans during the course of the walk.
Weather started out chilly with a hint of drizzle, becoming
warm and sunny by walk's end. This was followed by a pleasant
debrief at the Golden Chef, attended by all but danr.
