The Essential Grex Presidential Poll
|
Oct 19 04:40 UTC 2000 |
It's poll taking season, and it's time to poll our country's least
representative selection of voters, Grexers.
Which of the candidates do you prefer for president?
This poll is run on the most liberal rules possible. Your vote will be
counted even if you aren't eligable to vote, even if you aren't an
American. You may change your vote. You may split your vote (25% Bush,
75% Nader). Please do not try these things at an actual polling place.

I vote GORE.
I'd rather vote for Nader in a lot of ways. But mainly I want to cast
the most effective possible vote against Baby Bush. If the race weren't
so close, and Michigan weren't a swing state, I might go for the
symbolic protest, but not as it is.

So the results so far:
1 - Gore
0 - Bush
0 - Nader
1 - Non-voter
Looks like a landslide for Gore! Alert the media! Is this enough to be
statistically significant?

Gore. I think he's a smart guy. I'm not sure how much I agree with him.
This may be more of a vote against Bush.

But I would vote for MDW if he could get on ballot in all 50 states.

I don't know... probably Nader.
I agree with the Republican view of economics and labor unions (i'm a
product of capitalist parents; my dad eventually sued the local
teamsters) but disagree with their stances on abortion and most other
issues. And it's vice versa for the Democrats. And I don't like either
Bush or Gore, and can't bring myself to vote for either.
But then I was thinking not to vote Nader because it's "throwing away"
my vote. But if a candidate gets a certain amount of votes, doesn't
that require their political party be recognized?
As for my state, Tennessee, it's gonna be Gore. West TN is highly
Republican, but a lot of Middle and East is staunchly democrat. And
he's a favorite son, so he's a shoo-in.

In this media, surveys have no meaning. I would fully expect a
completely unrepresentative response tally in this item. You might
as well go into a social services office or a NRA office. Each would
give a different result, and with as much meaning.

Gore.
And I'll reiterate again, I don't see how anyone who claims to be reasoned
and well-thought-out could vote for Nader. I *can* see how someone who claims
to be reasoned and well-thought-out could vote for someone other than Gore
or Bush. Unfortunately, of the top five, I don't think any of them are truly
appropriate for the job, but four of them are, oh, about equal. Number five
should be taken to a public square somewhere and jeered repeatedly (that's
Buchanen).
#18> Has anyone voted for Bush in this item at all yet?
#0> Since this doesn't count anyway, I'll vote 25% Gore, 25% Nader, 50%
Browne. Just so my man Harry shows up on the list.
#18> Nevermind. bru did. Fancy that.

I guess Hagelin's in the pack, too, so I should have said that the top six
are all inappropriate, but five of them are roughly equal.
(Disclaimer: My comments about individuals being reasoned and well-thought-out
should be taken in the context of someone who's jumping around topics like
a Mexican Jumping Bean in heat. ;} )

That's because you, and millions of others, can't count: if
millions vote for the "improbable", the "improbable" is supposed
to win..
Then too, we have the marvelous "electoral college" <gag>

Gore. While I'm not fond of the main political parties or their near monopoly
on political power, 1) I despise Bush enough that I'm willing to go fairly
far out of my way to try to keep him from doing whatever it is that governers
do to this country, and 2) turns out I actually agree with most of what Gore
says. I don't much like his personality, I think he does an awful lot of
really obnoxious pandering to the current media image of a politician, and
I'm not really fond of all of his positions, but on around 90% of the actual
issues, I think he understands the issue and has come to more or less the same
conclusion I would in the circumstances.
