I was a systems/network administrator.
1997-2001
I was Lead Systems/Network Analyst at The Institute for Learning Technologies.
- I was in charge of two Cisco boxes: a Cisco 7500 with 35 CSDU/DSU slots and a Cisco 7513 with at least that many. I have since lost count.
- I was in charge of one Windows box: an ever-expanding PC1 running Windows NT 4.0 and serving as the domain for our internal network: with file sharing and authentication being its main services.
- I was in charge of one Solaris box, which served as a mail/web server for our wide-area network (there were 35 CSU/DSUs connected to 35 T1s coming from a bunch of New York City schools (from Brooklyn to Manhattan).
I became a software engineer.
2001-2007
I served as a Research Assistant at the Research Foundation of the City Univesity of New York.
- I was in charge of some Fortran code as Associate Scientific Programmer/Analyst with the Goddard Space Institute.
- I was in charge of some Matlab code for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Cooperative Remote Sensing Science and Technology Center.
- I was in charge of some C code for the Bayer Corporation's Research Division.
- I was in charge of some Java code for the Nielsen Ratings Company.
- I was in charge of some Scheme code for fun!
I studied computer science.
2007-2012
1 Our first primary domain controller was a dual
Pentium Pro 200MHz machine that was so awesome at the
time that I named it
atlas. By the end of my tenure, there were several
quad-core boxes
doing the work of a primary domain controller.
And atlas, true to its name to the end,
had become a
Linux-based DNS server.
