I've thought some about the consequences of the items which mention that
valerie deleted her "baby diary" items from the femme and parenting
conference. It had never before occurred to me that this would be done,
but according to messages entered by staff members, anyone can have an
item they entered deleted by a staff member. I would therefore like to
ask that two items be permanently deleted on my behalf as soon as
possible:

agora40, item 63
agora41, item 11

<material omitted> They contain material I entered
during my
divorce a couple of years ago, and which could unquestionably be
damaging
to me and to others. I would have deleted these items long ago had I
known it was possible.

Thanks!

Hi -- Sorry about the lack of response. Your request touched off a huge
discussion among board and staff. (Sigh... I started to write down the
details of the discussion, but then realized that I'd be violating
confidentiality if I did that.) I don't think a consensus is going to
be
reached anytime soon. I apologize that nobody thought to keep you
posted
on it.

Another option: Fair witnesses have always been able to delete items.
You
might ask the fw of the conference to delete them.

Valerie, the fw of Agora, where my items are, is Katie. She doesn't
log on that often.

Additionally, I feel strongly that, since you were allowed to delete
your items, I should be allowed to have mine deleted. You said you
acted as two people. User Valerie asked Staffer Valerie to delete the
items, and without much ado, it was done. I have now asked the staff
of Grex to delete a couple of items for me. User Jep has made the
same request, which has clearly reached Staffer Valerie. No debate is
needed. Please just delete the items. You can discuss it later.

I can justify my second thoughts and request to delete my item quite
easily, but I should not need to do so. Just, please, delete the items
and do it now.

Thanks.

Yes, and staffer Valerie has been told in no uncertain terms that what
she
did was wrong and that she should probably be removed from staff for it.

Hey, I have a question. Right now I'm in the middle of writing a
program
that a person could use to scribble all their responses from an item, or
conference, or even all of their responses everywhere on Grex. Would
it be
enough for you to run this program on your items, or, even with this
option, do you want the entire items gone?

Hoping that you are still awake & that you will answer soon,
Valerie

I have deleted the items you asked to have deleted. I very strongly
feel
it was the only ethical thing to do.

(I also resigned from staff this evening and am leaving the Grex
community.)

Are you a Grex member? If so, I suggest that you enter a member
proposal in
Coop, proposing that your item not be restored. Make the proposal
specific
to your item, not a general policy. Don't include Valerie's item in the
same proposal. If passed by the membership, then this would, I think,
prevent the board from deciding to restore the item, since membership
decisions trump board decisions and staff policy both. I think odds are
pretty good that the membership would vote that in this specific case
the
item should not be restored.

I have no idea if this would set a good precident or a bad one. But I
don't
think that should be your major concern.

If you're not a member, I'm sure a member could be found willing to
propose
this. It maybe should not be me, since I'm already a bit too close to
the
controversy for my comfort, but I'd be willing if you wanted it.
