This item is for system announcements (new computer equipment on Grex, system upgrades, Grex meetings, etc.). Personal announcements should go back in item 2; Grex system *problems* belong in the next item (#4).18 responses total.
I've rolled agora, finally, to the Sping/Summer 2015 season (agora92). I've linked over a few of the most active items from the Fall/Winter 2014/2015 conference (agora91). Please feel free to enter new items and do some conferencing! There should be plenty to talk about, including the 2016 Elections. If you want any items linked from other conferences, let me know.
Grex did its usual 'not responding' thing in the evening of June 9. Due to staff unavailability it was not rebooted until the evening of June 12. During this time, you could ping grex, but you could not use ssh or sftp to connect, nor access our web pages. This sort of thing will continue to happen until we replace the current operating system. Tony rebooted it for us. Thank you, Tony!
Thanks for rolling the system, Kent
Thank Tony. I just sat on the sidelines.
Thanks Tony!
Grex decided to stop responding sometime in the early morning of Monday, August 24. We were at the point of uptime where it probably would do that. We just can't predict when, exactly. Tony rebooted Grex and we are back in operation again. This unresponsiveness is an issue in the OpenBSD version we run. While the simple answer may seem to be upgrade the system version, it takes staff skill and time to do this (for example, our conferencing software and party software need to be made to work on a new system, along with all the other applications that people like to use on Grex). Our staff are all volunteers, so we need to wait for them to have the time do the work. Thanks, Tony!
(Are we moving to FreeBSD at the next upgrade?)
(I believe that is the plan, though I don't know when.)
resp:7 Yes.
Thank you staff (especially Tony)
(If this is going to be that kind of party, I'm going show off my breakdance skills.)
Better that than sticking your pee-pee in the mashed potatoes.
Ha ha ha I got the ill communication.

maxima, a computer algebra system written in Lisp, is now installed
on Grex. Of course, we only do command line programs, so some of
the features won't work (e.g. graphics).

Nominations are now open for the 2016 Board of Directors open seats. 4 seats are open. Nominations end November 30th, so check out coop item 363 and nominate someone or yourself!
Nominations closed Nov. 30. I'd also like to announce that emacs v24.5 is now installed on Grex, for those who use that editor.
The 2016 Cyberspace Board of Directors elections will take place on-line from Jan 1 to Jan 14, inclusive. https://grex.org/cgi-bin/pw/voting-booth is one way of getting to the voting area. You will need to authenticate with your grex username and password in order to vote. Note that anyone can vote but only member votes will count toward the election of any candidate.
You have several choices:
