I've seen that on my own sessions now and again. No idea what causes it.

#2 of 24 by polytarp on Wed Jan 28 05:58:49 2004:

Uh huh. That's just what any staff member in on the harrassment would say.

#3 of 24 by bhoward on Wed Jan 28 07:23:56 2004:

Actually, this error hits me quite frequently when I hit a poorly timed
control character, typically ^C.

I think crappy interrupt handling in grex's ancient version of sshd is
a more likely culprit.

Re. 3 & 4: Don't you guys see? That just proves staff's doing it to more
than one person.

#6 of 24 by naftee on Wed Jan 28 22:36:38 2004:

It's happened to me. As such, I wanted to read the /var/log/messages file
to investigate, but I was denied that request.

#7 of 24 by polytarp on Wed Jan 28 23:18:54 2004:

Yeah. If they were serious about figuring out who's causing these problems,
they'd open up that file.

#8 of 24 by scott on Wed Jan 28 23:48:08 2004:

Gosh guys, why *would* staff harrass you, anyways?

#9 of 24 by gull on Wed Jan 28 23:50:05 2004:

I get it from time to time when I'm in pine. I can't think of a
convincing reason staff would want to harass me. Anyone else want to try? ;>

#10 of 24 by polytarp on Wed Jan 28 23:52:36 2004:

Re. 8: Because Grex's staffed by antisocial goons.

Re. 9: That doesn't mean they aren't doing it.

You're the one who doesn't think there's a difference between someone leaving
Grex and committing suicide.

Ryan, Scott, don't feed the sociopath^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Htroll.

#14 of 24 by kip on Thu Jan 29 03:33:56 2004:

hehe, /var/log/messages on Grex doesn't contain that information. You should
start actually reading my replies. :)

#15 of 24 by polytarp on Thu Jan 29 03:54:27 2004:

Yes, you are an idiot and a vandal.

#16 of 24 by jared on Thu Jan 29 05:13:10 2004:

I know when I implemented an idle killer on my nether.net systems,
as well as a dup login killer and "background process killer", i used
kill -9 to blast them.

#17 of 24 by gelinas on Thu Jan 29 05:15:07 2004:

Interesting thought, Jared. I've seen us at max remote users lately.

#18 of 24 by naftee on Thu Jan 29 05:30:14 2004:

re 14 Yes, no action was taken on the sudo log either. Same deal, though.

#19 of 24 by gelinas on Thu Jan 29 05:36:20 2004:

naftee, if you don't trust the administrators of a system, you shouldn't use
that system.

I remembered later that when I have been kicked off by idled, there is nothing
about "kill -9". I simply see something about "session ended."

#20 of 24 by naftee on Thu Jan 29 06:22:01 2004:

You have to look at the messages file to see which signal was given.

#21 of 24 by jiffer on Thu Mar 4 17:03:58 2004:

Polytarp, please seek psychotherapy *immediately*. It appears you are
a paranoid loser. If you don't wish to seek psychotherapy, please shut
up and shove your thumbs up your piehole.
