I no longer wish to be a part of the Grex community. I have thought about this decision for years. I am sure about it. I have deeded over Grex's recipe archives to Colleen. I've deleted the recipes that I had posted. I've written a command that people can use to remove all of the responses they have ever made, from an item, from a conference, or from all of Grex. It's running now to remove all of the responses I entered as "valerie". It takes a long time to run. I will run it later to remove all of the responses I entered as "popcorn". It does not delete responses from staff or co-op conferences. I figured Grex didn't need holes in the staff conference, and as a former board member, treasurer, secretary, and president, of Grex, I figure that Grex doesn't need me to delete my responses in co-op conferences, such as treasurers' reports or meeting minutes. If you would like to delete all of your responses, you too can run this program. To delete all of your own responses in agora item 100, type: /a/p/o/popcorn/scribble agora 100 To delete all of your own responses in the kitchen conference, type: /a/p/o/popcorn/scribble kitchen To delete all of your own responses in all conferences (except co-op and staff), type: /a/p/o/popcorn/scribble all The program can't delete your responses if they're in items that are frozen or otherwise read-only. I've closed the Grex logo store on CafePress. It hasn't had an order in so long that its account balance was negative $5 anyway. I've also removed the pointers to it from the login screen and from Grex's web pages. If anybody wants to re-open it, I still have the art and would be willing to e-mail it to someone. I resign as fair witnesses of the following conferences: archive, the original auction, auction2, info, info2, kitchen, plants, staff, www, and win. This leaves the following conferences without fair witnesses: archive, info, newinfo (which is okay because it is not actually being used and it could be deleted), and win (WIN is defunct so it doesn't matter). The remaining fw of the original auction conference is robh. Auction2 is coyote and senna. Kitchen is denise and eeyore. Plants is scott. Web is ajax and robh. If the staff conference doesn't have a fw, I'm not worried. Though come to think of it, I think mdw added himself as a fw a few years ago. I've removed myself from the login screens for those conferences. I wish to have my original ascii art and HTML design removed from the Backtalk login screens for the following conferences for which I am not a fair witness: agora20 (I did only the colorization of the backtalk login screen, not the ascii art), agora21, agora22 (I'm not sure if I designed everything for agora22 or if I only did the colorization); agora23; agora24; agora25. I resign from the Grex staff. I have told people in the past that they would always be able to reach me at my valerie@cyberspace.org e-mail address, so I will keep my valerie/popcorn account. Once I have finished deleting all of my responses (which could take some time at the rate it is going) I will probably log into my account again someday, but not soon. I do not wish to be a part of this community anymore. The one exception that I'll probably continue to show up for some of the Saturday Morning Walks. I have cleaned out the files in my account. (Yay -- free disk space!) I have changed the password to my root account to a string that I cut and pasted in, so that I no longer know the password. (This is largely symbolic, since I know the other roots' passwords. I would appreciate it if staff would change the passwords to something I don't know.) I have given the collection of unassigned keys to the Pumpkin to Jan. I have deleted my account on gryps.1 responses total.
Some people have asked me why I deleted my old postings everywhere on Grex. I deleted my old postings because of things that were said on M-Net, not out of any desire to hurt Grex. On M-Net, they insist that anything that is posted on Grex (or on M-Net, or anyplace else on the Internet) is an open invitation to other people to use it in parodies on M-Net. I do not wish to be parodied, and I do not wish to have my words re-used by other people in any other way. So I am removing my words in order to rescind an invitation that I had never intended to extend. I do not wish to participate in M-Net's parody game, and if the only way to opt out is removing myself from Grex, well, I think it's really sad to have to do that, but so be it. I shared the program that I wrote that lets people delete all of their responses because other people had expressed the desire to remove their words for the same reason.
