Nominations are now open for the Cyberspace Communications, Inc. Board of Directors. Nominations will close at Midnight February 5 and an online election will be held from Midnight February 7, 2007 through Midnight February 21, 2007. Terms of office begin on January 1, 2007, and are two years in length. This is a special election, authorized by the Board of Directors to fill the seat vacated by John Remmers. Grex membership is a requirement for serving on the Board. Any current member of Grex who has paid at least 3 months' membership dues and meets state of Michigan eligibility requirements may run for and serve on the Board unless they are currently serving and are completing the second of two consecutive terms. People in the latter group are eligible to run again in next year's election if they are still members at that time. To appear on the ballot, a person must be nominated in this item by Midnight February 5 and affirmatively accept the nomination in this item before the start of voting on February 7. Seconds are not required. Self-nominations are permitted. See http://cyberspace.org/local/grex/bod.html for a history of Board service since 1996. I nominate cmcgee and tod.
I also nominate scholar
I would like to second the nominations for cmcgee, tod, and scholar. And I would like to nominate the following: Mike Mcnally (mcnally), Sean Granger (granger), Chad Cope (fuzzball), Karen Nelson (karenz), Mary Edwards (marye622), Morena Timm (munkey), Jeff Rollin (twenex), Mickey Ferguson (micklpkl), Ken Josenhans (krj), Joseph Gelinas (gelinas), Kevin Nichols (twinkie), Chris Cochran (it), Bruce Allen Price (bru), Scott Helmke (scott), Nick Easler (easlern), Chad Altenburg (daemon9), Tony Chamberlain (chamberl)... And that is about enough for now.
I second for twenex, munkey and mcnally.
fine if you really want me ...
I would also like to nominate: Jeanne Manigold (furs), John Ellis Perry Jr. (jep), James P. Howard (jp2), Larry Smith (lar), TS Taylor (tsty), Sindi Keesan (keesan), Jim Deigert (jim), Jim Daloonik (naftee), Marc VanHeyningen (marcvh), Rex Roof (trex)
I'm not qualified as I am not a member, but thanks for the nomination.
I accept my nominations.
Jep, it would be easy to become a member.
Jep knows that, but has stated that he does not wish to be a member right now because of grex's large surplus of cash: he does not think that grex needs members to be paying dues at the moment.
I don't think I'm eligible to serve, having just concluded my second consecutive term. Just in case someone decides that one month is a sufficiently long break, I decline.
thanks for the nomination, nate, but unless the ID rule gets changed for members here, i won't be eligible
I appreciate the votes of confidence, but I'm not a member, and not likely to be able to become one anytime soon.
I rescind my candidacy for the Board election.
I accept my nomination for the board election.
Awesome, cmcgee!
I strongly decline my nomination.
Glad to hear it, Colleen.
I'm glad to see some people accepting! [2 so far?] :-)
It looks like chamberl and cmcgee have accepted so far, with roughly six days to go.
i strongly increase tod's nomination
Unless !member is out of date -- which, well, wouldn't surprise me -- neither chamberl nor cmcgee have paid their membership dues and are hence inelligible to run for the Board. Also, I apologize for my flakiness, but I reaccept my nominations to run for the Board. While one person out of isn't going to have much effect as far as voting goes, I am running in the hopes of making Grex a more welcoming place for both new users and those who have become disaffected with certain aspects of Grex's current power structure which, I believe, has caused many talented and vital members and potential members of the community to decline to provide their services to Grex and, worse, participate in its community. While at times I seem to be more or less antagonistic to Grex, I've been a consistent member for years and I want it to thrive like it did before I even arrived. In short, if elected, I intend to shake things up as much as possible.
I would endorse Todd's nomination, but my understanding he has little interest in running for the Board for reasons that are, for him, no doubt very good. It'd be nice to see people champing at the bit to be on the Board.
If I had more computer knowledge and a current member, I'd consider helping out. But since I can't run, I'll just do what I can in my own way in keeping some of the community feeling up and running. :-)
If you give blood for no financial compensation, I WILL buy you a three month membership.
Hey! What happened to the one you were going to buy for me?
Thanks for the offer, scholar. But after a long time in donating [about 3 gallons worth] - and having worked at the Red Cross on the blood drives [so I know the importance of donating], I can not eligible to donate any more. Though I donated in NC, ineligible people are put into the national registry so we can't try to donate at a center elsewhere.
I must decline! I know nothing about boards and such.
scholar would make an excellent board member.

Re. 26: It's been paid up. Simply waiting for some hold up in the Treasury Department to clear through.
My membership is paid up under a different login. I will ask the treasurer to switch the "paidupness" to cmcgee.
resp:30 why?
Re #33: Asking here is good enough. I have changed Colleen's membership from her old login to "cmcgee".
ty Mark
The nominations closed two days ago; the members who accepted nominations (or nominated themselves) are cmcgee and scholar. I think the polls are supposed to be open, or maybe they were supposed to open in just over three hours.
Was Tony Chamberlain given a chance to establish his membership in order to be a part of the election?

*** Welcome to the Grex Voting Booth, nharmon! ***
We're sorry, the polls are closed.
Re #38: Not sure what you mean, Nathan - anyone can become a member at any time, just by sending money to Grex.
Okay, I wasn't sure if anybody told Tony Chamberlain that he needed to get his membership in order. I guess it doesn't really matter anyway.
Eligibility requirements are spelled out in resp:0.
The polls are now open for the special election to replace John Remmers on the Board of Directors.
I'm disappointed to see no candidate statements. :(
:(
Thanks Joe. Candidate statement (will post later this weekend as a retrievable statement). I'm running for the open board seat because I believe Grex needs to find a way to involve active members, new and old, in maintaining its community and mission. Members, staff, and board need to examine what is working and what is not, and find creative ways to reward participation and support.
(For the record, the web voting booth isn't open)
Colleen: Just type !extract coop 389 46 > statement at any picospan prompt, then !pico statement if you'd like to clean it up any.
The web voting booth is now linked from the main page.
Last day to vote is Wednesday.
So, Wednesday was yesterday. What were the results of the election, Dr. Mark?
The polls closed at Midnight; the VoteAdm, Ad Hoc, just signed on for the first time since the polls closed. The results will posted as soon as they are available.
The votes have now been counted. 23 people voted: 21 members and 2 non-members. cmcgee received nineteen members' votes, and scholar received two member's votes; cmcgee is therefore elected to the Cyberspace Communications, Inc, Board of Directors. One non-member voted for cmcgee, and the other cast a null vote. Congratulations, Ms. Mcgee. Gelinas. Vote Adm, Ad Hoc.
Thanks, Joe for stepping in and handling the voting. And thanks to all of you for participating in the election.
Congratulations, cmcgee. I look forward to serving on the board with you.
THanks Joe, for being voteadm. Congratulations, Colleen! And thanks to David for running.
Congratulations, Colleen. I, too, look forward to serving with you!
