What about creating links to old agora conferences based on the months they were active in? It's a bit of a pain in the ass to sort through all the serially numbered agoras, especially when not all of them were actually for a single season and junk.32 responses total.
Since people tend to associate them seasonally, rather than months it might make sense to use the season they ran for, e.g. "spring2005" or "winter2003". Otherwise it seems like a decent suggestion.
I think this is an excellent suggestion.
montly would be easier to deal with and cut down on the total amount of crap one had to sort through.
Who is montly?
montly crue
Since an entire season's items and responses are maintained in a single file, monthly links would NOT cut down on the material a reader would be faced with. However, monthly links *would* quadruple the number of links required (four instead of one) for each season.
Okay. Try reading this item before responding next time.
So I re-read the item. Now, are you asking for something like "Dec05Mar06" for Winter2005? Or are you asking for "Dec2005," "Jan2006," Feb2006," and "Mar2006" for that version of agora?
Basically, yeah. Though mcnally's suggestion of seasonal links is fine too.
McNally's suggestion makes far more sense. I thought gelinas' response was a direct response to #3, not to #0
LISTEN IF YOU"RE GOING AROUND BEING AN ASSHOLE THERE"S NO WAY I"M BUYING YOUR FUCKING HARRDDRIVE s YOU JUST LAWS YOUSAELF A CISTPOMER ./
also, gelinas's response does't make sense because it uses 'quadrupling the links' as an argument against it, but who the fuck cares about quadrupling the links, we're not about to run out of dick space?
unlucky
Regarding #12; I understand you have limited dick space. Please, use that resource optimally. Being able to "join mar2006" and have it take you to the correct conference would be nice, but it seems clear that the intent of #0 is to be able to join the appropriate agora without searching through a bunch of numbers...
This conference has plenty of dick space apparently.
re. 14: i'm asking for the exactly same thing: typing 'join mar2006' and having it take you there. this cuts down on having to search through a bunch of numbers too, though. agora1, agora2, agora...
Regarding #16; I agree. I think a problem with the month problem is that grex agora is restarted based on seaons, and seaons don't necessarily begin and end on a month boundary. So what about a month that contains two seasons, and thus spans two agoras? Where should that take you?
I'd like to see "join fall2005" or a similar option.
re. 17: SEE MCNALLY"S RESPONSE AND MY AGREEMENT THAT IT"S A BETTER SOLUTION THOUGH ALSO SEE EARLY AGORAS AND HOW THEY DON"T FOLLOW SEASONS
I saw that. But I was still asking the question.
This response has been erased.
re 19 They do.
re. 20: ASK ANY QUESTION YOU WANT< SUIR THIS IS A FREE AND OPEN DEMOCRAcY
I agree that being able to "join spring2005" would be nice. maybe with "spring05" as an alternative. Not very Y2100 friendly.
(of course, "join spring2005" isn't very Y10k friendly either)
I agree with #1 - aliases like "winter1995" make sense. Implementing them involves a simple-minded, albeit tedious, edit to the /bbs/conflist file. Maybe I'll do this next time I'm in the mood for something simple-minded and tedious.
i think steVE should do it.
Symbolic links ought to do the trick.
no. if you're trying to be helpful with a really simple thing, try to at least get it right.
AJHAJAJAJA<M ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT YOUR COCK ? BECAUSE GETTING IT UP AUGHT TO BE A SIMPLE THING< BUT I DON"T THINK DREW WOULD BE HELPFUL IN THAT RESPECT< AHAHAHAHAA?>>A>>A> oh man i crack myself up
Re #28: Actually, I doubt that symbolic links would work. In order for a conference to be joinable under a particular name, that name has to appear in /bbs/conflist. (Although an ancient version of Picospan (circa mid-1980s) didn't use a conflist file; M-Net users could create bootleg conferences in their home directories, and often did, much to the consternation of Mike Myers.)
Is that where the attik was, in someone's home directory?
You have several choices:
