Attending Board Members: slynne, mary, dpc, polygon, gelinas Non-Attending Board Members: bhoward, vanloons Attending Non-Board Members: remmers, aruba The May 24, 2005 meeting of the Grex Board of Directors was called to order by President slynne at 8:10 p.m. at the home of John an Mary Remmers, 19 Westbury Ct., Ann Arbor. Slynne expressed her thanks to the staff for fixing Grex again. Treasurer's Report: Assistant Treasurer aruba said he was a little behind. So far in May, we have taken in $102, and our bills will total the usual $150. We bought a new disk from Leeron Kopelman for $290. It is a 36 gig disk, double the capacity of the old one. The disks have been exchanged. Aruba proposed that the Board adopt a bank resolution using the Bank of Ann Arbor's form, with gelinas, aruba, janc, and slynne as signers, with one signature required. Dpc moved its adoption, mary seconded, and the resolution was adopted unanimously. The terms of this resolution are intended to apply to TCF bank as well. Dpc gave the Board a copy of an e-mail purporting to be from PayPal saying there were problems with our account. The Board decided that the e-mail was fake; that someone had been on a phishing expedition. Staff Report: Gelinas said the password file is still not in good shape. He was unsure when newuser would be back on line. He said that only STeve knew how to fix this problem. There had been no word from STeve. Some old users still cannot log in. Newuser is scrambling the date it is putting in the log file. Mary tried to reach STeve by phone, with no result. Aruba got krj on the phone, and krj told him that STeve had intended to come to the Board meeting. The Board noted that since newuser had been closed the problem people had settled down. Slynne said that we should not worry about making any changes to the handling of newuser until newuser was back up. Schedule Next Meeting: The Board scheduled the next meeting for Tuesday, July 5, at Zingerman's because they have connectivity which will allow our non-local Board members to participate. New Business: With regard to the possible purchase of a Weasel, the Board decided to wait for staff consensus. Gelinas said that we already have a remote reboot option. If we call Provide.Net, their staff will reboot Grex from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Gelinas said he was not convinced a Weasel would get us more. He said that if Provide.Net staff had attempted a reboot this last time, that might have saved us. Fsck would have failed, and we would have gotten someone over there. The meeting was adjourned at 8:46 p.m.23 responses total.
Nice minutes. Thanks, Dave.
Please note that "the problem users settling down" (i.e., me entering fewer AHAHAHAH responses) has absolutely nothing to do with newuser being shut down.
re #2 Your ego gets in the way of your eyesite. What makes you think your BBS entries are "trouble" compared to spammers and forkbombers?
re 0 Who is the treasurer ?
Re. 3: Because that's why they were talking about closing down newuser!
re #5 Surely something more sinister is behind the closure of the very item that keeps them within their non-profit charter?!
You have to open newuser in order to be non-profit?
Have you read the application?
Apparently not. Are you talking about the articles of incorporation?
Until newuser is working, could those old users whose password files got messed up be given new accounts manually by staff members?
I would be happy to let any excluded users or newusers use my account to enter responses, as long as they made sure to enter responses under their own names, i.e., "#10 of 10 by [newuser's name] (md)." (Not so happy, though, if it meant I couldn't log on whenever I wanted to. Maybe you could pick an existing unused account and post the password for it?)
mfp's password is MyDearPassword.
Hey it is! Thanks, [gentleman and a] scholar!
Thanks, md!
Thanks, naftee!
Md, do you also want to let people use your account for mail? Are there a lot of unused accounts around that could temporarily be assigned to old users whose accounts got messed up, and to potential new users, including our neighbor without an ISP who would like to learn to do email here?
Hadn't thought about that. I think you could use one account for many people's mail, but it would have to be managed carefully. I'm not sure it could be done.
Anyone's more than welcome to try with the mfp account.
Can I try the dcat account ? Wait, I already have :(
I forget the password.
