Grex Oldcoop Conference

Item 207: Nominations for the 2005 Grex Board of Directors

Entered by remmers on Wed Oct 20 19:54:28 2004:

Nominations are now open for the Cyberspace Communications, Inc.
Board of Directors. In accordance with Article 4, Section d of
the Bylaws, nominations will close on November 15 and an online
election will be held December 1 through December 15. Terms of
office begin on January 1, 2005, and are two years in length.
Three seats are up for election this time around.

Any current member of Grex who has paid at least 3 months'
membership dues is eligible to run for and serve on the Board
unless they are currently serving and are completing the second
of two consecutive terms. (People in the latter group are
eligible to run again in next year's election if they are
still members at that time.)

The terms of four board members have one more year to run:
S. Lynne Fremont (slynne), Bruce Howard (bhoward), Larry
Kestenbaum (polygon), and Mary Remmers (mary). Hence there is
no point in nominating any of them.

The three board members whose terms end on December 31 are
Mark Conger (aruba), Joe Gelinas (gelinas), and Anne Perry
(mooncat). Joe Gelinas is completing his first term and is
eligible to run for re-election. Mark Conger and Anne Perry
are completing the second of two consecutive terms and are
therefore *not* eligible to run this time, although they can
run in future elections.

To appear on the ballot, a person must be nominated in this
item by November 15 and affirmatively accept the nomination
in this item before the start of voting on December 1. Seconds
are not required. Self-nominations are permitted.
188 responses total.

#1 of 188 by mfp on Wed Oct 20 20:53:07 2004:

I nominate Anne Perry.

#2 of 188 by mooncat on Wed Oct 20 21:05:30 2004:

I nominate Joe Gelinas, he's been great on the board and think he
should stick around for another term.

(thanks for the nomination, but I'm not eligible. :) I served my time,
I'm free damnit!! well, almost...)

#3 of 188 by aruba on Wed Oct 20 23:15:49 2004:

I second the nomination of Joe Gelinas. I'd also like to nominate John
Remmers.

#4 of 188 by mfp on Wed Oct 20 23:27:59 2004:

I nominate Mark A Conger.

#5 of 188 by gelinas on Thu Oct 21 01:55:07 2004:

I gratefully accept the nomination. :)

#6 of 188 by keesan on Thu Oct 21 02:29:59 2004:

I nominate Scott Helmke. I would be happy to nominate Jan but I bet he is
too busy.

#7 of 188 by cross on Thu Oct 21 03:11:17 2004:

I second the nominations of John Remmers and Scott Helmke, and third the
nomination of Joe Gelinas. I'm with Sindi on Jan.

#8 of 188 by mfp on Thu Oct 21 03:22:34 2004:

I nominate Jan Wolter, Sindi Loo Keesan, Valerie Mates with Krauts, Joel
Joelinas, and Danielle Cross.

#9 of 188 by scott on Thu Oct 21 05:12:13 2004:

Thank you for the nomination Sindi, but I'm not interested in running.

#10 of 188 by mfp on Thu Oct 21 05:22:16 2004:

I nominate Scott Helmke, Form Empl E., and myself.

#11 of 188 by albaugh on Thu Oct 21 05:46:50 2004:

Since aruba is out again (sigh - unless he is happy to be out) note that
someone from the board will have to succeed him as treasurer effective
January 2005.

#12 of 188 by mfp on Thu Oct 21 05:50:05 2004:

I nominate Kevin Albaugh.

#13 of 188 by richard on Thu Oct 21 06:07:59 2004:

The membership could vote to add an extra seat to the board of directors,
which would be a permanent board seat assigned to the treasurer. With the
proviso that the treasurer only ever votes as a board member to break a
tie. The treasurer would not vote to make quorum or for any other reason.
It would be for most intents and purposes a non-voting board position. Or
just change the bylaws to say that the treasurer doesn't necessarily have
to be a member of the board.

#14 of 188 by richard on Thu Oct 21 06:10:48 2004:

Inasmuch as precedent has been set and grex accepts out of state board
members who attend the meeting by telephone, I nominate Morena Timm, aka
Munkey. She runs the grexergallery.net page. can't think of anyone more
committed to this place than she is.

#15 of 188 by naftee on Thu Oct 21 06:40:54 2004:

I nominate Richard J. Wallner.

#16 of 188 by happyboy on Thu Oct 21 07:45:09 2004:

i nominate richard wallner too.

#17 of 188 by richard on Thu Oct 21 08:08:36 2004:

thanks but no thanks, I'm too much of an anarchist to be on the
board. :)

#18 of 188 by mfp on Thu Oct 21 15:33:09 2004:

I nominate Richard J. Wallner, Jim Daloonik, and Reverend Dalvador Dali
Parton, though not necessarily in that order.

#19 of 188 by naftee on Fri Oct 22 01:27:51 2004:

I second the nomination for the Reverend Partoon.

#20 of 188 by mfp on Fri Oct 22 04:46:39 2004:

I fully nominate Jim Daloonik.

#21 of 188 by janc on Fri Oct 22 14:13:40 2004:

I regret that I can't run this time. I think the next Grex board is one that
is going to have some work to do. With Grex's revenues dipping the time has
come to make some changes, and the board is going to have to be in the drivers
seat on many of these.

I think Grex needs to move out of the pumpkin. We need to be looking for a
lower cost location with better network bandwidth. My preference of all the
options I've heard discussed would be the Ann Arbor District Library. I think
that is doable, but it is going to require quite a lot of legwork and
saleswork to get that deal done. I bet there are other non-commerical options
that might also be possible, and finding those will require even more energy.
Commercial co-location is also a viable alternative, and the deal is likely
easier to make, but still not trivial.

I still like the retroGrex idea, but it probably isn't compatible with moving
out of the pumpkin. I think if we do retroGrex we'd probably have to house
it someplace like somebody's basement. It could still be retro.grex.org even
if it wasn't in the same physical place as grex.org.

I think we also need to do some creative thinking about the services Grex
provides. I hope to be working on some of these issues from a technical end,
doing things like RSS and email notification which have a chance of increasing
usership of the conferences. But there are policy issues here too.

So I think we need a board that is more active than usual at this juncture
if Grex is going to return to a growth mode rather than continuing to dwindle.

I'm not exactly sure who the right people are. One obvious candidate,
if he's willing, would be Dave Cahill.

#22 of 188 by mfp on Fri Oct 22 14:40:08 2004:

I nominate Jan Wolter.

#23 of 188 by naftee on Fri Oct 22 21:27:04 2004:

I completely and utterly nominate More Femme Please, our Form Empl E.

#24 of 188 by richard on Sat Oct 23 03:30:47 2004:

I'll nominate krj because well, I can't pester him about running unless
he's nominated :) But actually most who end up in Party during the
lurking hours know that krj is a fine source for learning about grex's
history, as he's been around longer than most as he's been around here for
years. He'd be a fine board member.

#25 of 188 by mfp on Sat Oct 23 03:44:59 2004:

In keeping with some prestigious and generous tradition, I nominate Jim
Daloonik and Richard Jay Wallner.

#26 of 188 by tod on Sat Oct 23 05:24:05 2004:

I nominate Larry Kestenbaum and third Richard J Wallner.

This response has been erased.

#29 of 188 by remmers on Sat Oct 23 12:35:04 2004:

After applying a rudimentary sanity filter to the above, I come
up with the following list of nominees who have not declined (real
names used when known or believed to be known):

         Joe Gelinas (gelinas)
         John Remmers (remmers)
         Sindi Keesan (keesan)
         Kevin Albaugh (albaugh)
         Morena Timm (munkey)
         Jim Daloonik (naftee)
         Dave Cahill (dpc)
         Todd Plesco (tod)
         Ken Josenhans (krj)
         David Hoffman (mfp)

Only mfp has accepted so far (assuming that a self-nomination counts as
an acceptance).

#30 of 188 by gelinas on Sat Oct 23 13:00:24 2004:

John, might I invite your attention to Response #5, above?

#31 of 188 by remmers on Sat Oct 23 14:15:04 2004:

In due course I nominate John H. Remmers, Josephelle Gelinas, Slynne Fremont,
and Mark A Conger.

#35 of 188 by keesan on Sun Oct 24 01:14:47 2004:

Isn't Kip already staff? Is it fair to ask someone to wear two hats?.
Unless there are really not enough other people interested, I decline.
I am not good at politics and don't understand BSD very well either.

#36 of 188 by gelinas on Sun Oct 24 01:36:32 2004:

There are advantages to being on both Board and Staff. If the person is
willing, I don't see any reason to bar them.

#37 of 188 by mfp on Sun Oct 24 02:14:09 2004:

I nominate Sindi Keesan and Joseph "Elle" Gelleinas.

#38 of 188 by naftee on Sun Oct 24 05:57:17 2004:

Pursuant to the specified articles in plantiff's case 5061, and let's keep
pursuing, Brett Vachon was rigtiously nominated to the congenital position
of Board Member of Grex, a positioons whose titular, fiscal, and legal
responsibilities will, if he is nominated, be pased on to his decendents in
the classical paro-natal model.

#56 of 188 by naftee on Wed Oct 27 03:12:03 2004:

Notwithstanding the linear apporximation by Newton's method of the Point in
the GreX board of directors, hereupon we find nominations are due for David
Hoffman, mfp, in due course, of Liebnitz snooze tradition.

#57 of 188 by mfp on Wed Oct 27 03:58:49 2004:

What do I think of sex? I think it's here to stay. What do I think of
naftee? I think he's here to stay too. Taht's why I nominate him for the
elction of gRExist in Charge (with badge given to winner).

#58 of 188 by naftee on Wed Oct 27 21:46:10 2004:

Sex , naftee, and polytarp on the BoD (GreX) are all sweet things, and thus
the nominationitis syndrome has been duly administered to our very own mfp,
may he BoD forever!

#59 of 188 by mfp on Thu Oct 28 01:02:11 2004:

In support of the industrial middle class, I nominate, of my own volition and
after due and sober consideration, Brett Vachon for the position of

Are we finished? No! We continue and will due so in due course until he due

for the GreX board of Directors, Esq, Ann Arbor, in God we Trust.

#61 of 188 by mfp on Thu Nov 4 18:57:18 2004:

In keeping with the maxim that prostitues, pastries, and nominations of naftee
to the position of BM are necessary for a just society, I nominate Brett
Vachon to the position of Board Member of the esteemed and soon to be
mentioned GreX Board of Directiors.

#62 of 188 by naftee on Fri Nov 5 00:51:44 2004:

A little over ten days marks the end of what has been, and what will be,
namely, the nomination, propagation and admittance of David Hofofman to the
Polytarp BOD of GreX Board of Directors, for which we wish him luck in his
endeavours.

#63 of 188 by mfp on Fri Nov 5 02:12:21 2004:

Drawn mainly from varios works of great and powerful philosophers, the
following truism struck a certain reverance into the head of all who
listended:

Forbeit true that Brett "Naftee" Vachon, for reasons similar to those give
for the embarment of the far side of Museum Station, has been and will be
nominated, in accordance with the liberal tration, to the position heretooff
and foreever more lawfully wedded BM, Brett "N." Vachon, B.M., Hon. B.M., L.S.

#64 of 188 by remmers on Sat Nov 6 13:18:49 2004:

I'll make my perennial (literally!) nomination of Colleen McGee for the
Board, in the perennial hope that one of these years she'll accept.

#65 of 188 by mfp on Sun Nov 7 00:12:12 2004:

I nominate John H. Remmers.

#66 of 188 by vanloons on Sun Nov 7 03:52:06 2004:

I nominate myself, Steve Van Loon. I also accept the nomination.

#67 of 188 by naftee on Sun Nov 7 05:57:41 2004:

Steve Van Loon, John Remmers, and of course David "Hoffman" Polytarp, are all
in due course nominated to the GreX board of directors.

#68 of 188 by mfp on Sun Nov 7 14:28:49 2004:

To the sound of great rejoicing, I nominate Steve Van Loon and Brett Vachon
to the GreX Board of Directors.

#69 of 188 by naftee on Sun Nov 7 20:44:35 2004:

Nominating is the spice of life, and David Hoffman, as nominated, is the
jalapeno pepper of the GreX B0D.

#70 of 188 by mfp on Sun Nov 7 21:42:25 2004:

If reason's only purpose is to edify faith in unbelievers, I'm afraid there's
no reason to nominate Brett Vachon. However, that is not reason's only
purpose, and thus with the weight of reason behind me, I nominate Brett Vachon
to the GreX BoD.

#71 of 188 by naftee on Mon Nov 8 05:20:49 2004:

What is similar about a ballpoint pen and the GreX Bod? The answer is of
course that neither can swim in an unsalted ocean; but for everything else,
including Mastercard, we have our very own David Hoffman, who is as of this
momment nominated to the GreX Board of Directors.';

#72 of 188 by richard on Mon Nov 8 07:26:41 2004:

question-- has any one of those currently nominated been grex
treasurer before, or would be willing to be so now? Since Aruba's
term is up, and I don't get the impression that any of the current
board members want responsibility for the books, its a fair question
to ask. Wasn't Remmers treasurer once?

Either that or they'll have to draw straws at the first board meeting
of the new year. Whoever draws the short straw has to be treasurer
whether they want it or not :)

#73 of 188 by mary on Mon Nov 8 11:38:31 2004:

The board is chock-full of people who care a whole lot about
Grex. Some of us would do a better job of being treasurer
than others, and Mark will be a hard act to follow. But it
will work out. I think this is one of those areas where you
have to trust that those you give (or have given) the job, will
do the job. In the past this decicion has always been made
among the board members. If you try to make it a condition
of running for the board, I fear you'll scare away some mighty
good candidates.

#74 of 188 by naftee on Mon Nov 8 13:04:50 2004:

I am pleased to draw the two longest nomination straws and extend them to Mary
H Remmers and Richard J Wallner.

#75 of 188 by remmers on Mon Nov 8 15:55:23 2004:

(For the record, I was never treasurer.)

#76 of 188 by remmers on Mon Nov 8 16:25:26 2004:

Ok - did a tour of responses and came up with the following list
of nominees. I didn't list anybody who declined. An 'A' after
their login means they've accepted, and 'M' means that as best
I can determine, they are currently members. (Membership and
payment of at least 3 months' dues is a condition for running).
Please correct me if I missed any names, acceptances, or

That's pretty sad if you have to tell a nominee to come read the coop cf so
they can accept.

#78 of 188 by keesan on Tue Nov 9 00:35:40 2004:

I declined after someone mentioned earlier that I had been nominated.
If you cannot come up with enough more competent candidates I might
reconsider, assuming someone else from my part of town is also going to be
going to the meetings, which are now held on the extreme northern or eastern
fringes of my daytime world.

Thanks, Cindy!

#80 of 188 by mfp on Tue Nov 9 02:07:59 2004:

I nominate (In successive and decessive order) Brett Vachon, Richard "I'm not
a Nazi and Neither is Nietzsche" Wagner, the ever lovable Mary Remmers,
Bohemian John Remmers, Grex's stalwart guardian, Todd Plescow, and Sindi "I
don't smell like cat piss" Keesan.

#81 of 188 by naftee on Tue Nov 9 05:39:29 2004:

With a fistful of hay and a baleful of good will, we find in nominee debt
a gratitude of platitudes in the form of Tod Plesco, Sindi Kee-san, and our
very own David Hoffman, to which we can ascribe the acronym TP-SK-DH,
which mostly resembles a license plate in the State of Ohio.

#82 of 188 by munkey on Tue Nov 9 06:37:30 2004:

Re #76 - Got your email Mr. Remmers, thanks I guess. I would accept but I'm
not a member.

#83 of 188 by mfp on Tue Nov 9 15:41:13 2004:

We all want to be in Evanston, Ohio, and, believing Mrs Morena Timm capable
of getting us there, we nominate her.

#84 of 188 by naftee on Tue Nov 9 20:11:15 2004:

What has more momentum than ric falling down the stairs and yet is more
powerful than the normal force? One might guess the GreX BoD, but we could
be wrong. Regardless, we nominate our resident funkeymunkey and our ever
present form empl e.

#85 of 188 by mfp on Tue Nov 9 21:30:29 2004:

When the conservatives were worried about a slippery slope, they were right.

Not only do us liberals want fags to get married; we now want to marry naftee
to the position of Grex BoDM, and so we nominate him.

#86 of 188 by naftee on Tue Nov 9 22:49:35 2004:

Whether you're south or north of the border, one thing is for certain, Ann
Arbor is most definitely to the south, and David Hoffman is veering the GreX
BoD towards the north with his nomination.

#87 of 188 by mfp on Tue Nov 9 22:57:32 2004:

Ottawa is as far north of Ann Arbor as Ann Arbor is of Kentucky. Think about
it.

That's why we should nominate people from Ottaawa to replace those from Ann
Arbor, and, sicnce Brett Vachon is from Ottawa, I nominate him.

#88 of 188 by tod on Wed Nov 10 01:00:55 2004:

I second the nomination of Brett "Anything Goes" Vachon.

#89 of 188 by mfp on Wed Nov 10 02:41:44 2004:

#90 of 188 by naftee on Wed Nov 10 05:34:32 2004:

Yeah guys, putting all symptoms of citydom aside, I'm going to third the
nomination of Tod and David, stars.

#91 of 188 by remmers on Wed Nov 10 14:29:41 2004:

Aplogies to Sindi for missing that she declined. I also missed
Dave Cahill's nomination, so I'll add

        dpc M

Note that regarding accepting and declining, one can always change one's
mind up to the start of voting on December 1.

Please add me to the "nomination declined" list.

#93 of 188 by naftee on Wed Nov 10 20:23:30 2004:

I nominate our infalliable hardworking Hohn J Remmers and the great
scientist/musician Ken "Rap & Folk" Josenhaumous.

#94 of 188 by dpc on Thu Nov 11 14:39:07 2004:

I accept my nomination.

YAH!

#96 of 188 by mfp on Thu Nov 11 16:06:56 2004:

"Don't make a mountain out of this" Cahill, and Josephelle Gelleinas.

#97 of 188 by tod on Thu Nov 11 16:37:46 2004:

I nominate Brat Vashon Island winery to the board with absolute conviction.

#98 of 188 by mfp on Thu Nov 11 18:29:04 2004:

A nomination for Todd Plescow was most graciously received from mfp.

#99 of 188 by naftee on Thu Nov 11 19:22:21 2004:

Bang ! Bling ! Blong! These are the sounds of failure as they hit the ground
and pave the way for our new nominees, namely, David "The First" Cahill, Josep
Gellinas, David "The Seconde" Hoffmann, and "Odd Todd" Plesco.

#100 of 188 by tod on Thu Nov 11 19:49:27 2004:

Thanks Mr.Judge

#101 of 188 by twenex on Thu Nov 11 19:58:20 2004:

Is anyone actually taking any notice of who naftee is nominating? Not that
I think they should.

#102 of 188 by mfp on Thu Nov 11 21:14:13 2004:

I may be insane enough to have been prescribed Paxil, but I don't have to be
crazy to nominate Todd and Geoff!

#103 of 188 by naftee on Fri Nov 12 00:53:41 2004:

What a great pair we have up. Guys, pay attention. Notice we're nominating
our tod, are Geoff and hour David!@

#104 of 188 by aruba on Fri Nov 12 00:57:12 2004:

Richard asked about who's been treasurer in the past - Grex has had 4
treasurers: valerie, danr, aruba, and flem.

#105 of 188 by mfp on Fri Nov 12 01:03:22 2004:

I nominate Brett "In Fashion" Vachon and Marc A. Konger.

I nominate Mark "African Drumming" Conger and David "Aspirated Aitch" Hoffman

I nominate Brett "I go for walks in the park" Vachon.

#108 of 188 by naftee on Sat Nov 13 20:04:28 2004:

What's recursive nomination without a base case? What's the GreX Bod (as we
know, goes in circles!) without the base mfp? With this lemma we can safely
nominate David Hoffman.

#109 of 188 by tod on Sat Nov 13 22:55:10 2004:

I nominate Daisy and Uncle Jesse

#110 of 188 by mfp on Sun Nov 14 01:57:05 2004:

#112 of 188 by mary on Sun Nov 14 12:12:46 2004:

I'd like to nominate Eric Bassey.

#113 of 188 by naftee on Sun Nov 14 18:25:14 2004:

Please take this the right way and ignore the unlucky+100: I nominate Mary
Remmers.

#114 of 188 by mfp on Sun Nov 14 19:48:13 2004:

I'[d like to nominate the Brett Vachon and the Mary Remmers.

#115 of 188 by naftee on Mon Nov 15 00:51:17 2004:

I nominate Aryeh Friedman. But instead of him, let's nominate David Hoffman.

#116 of 188 by mfp on Mon Nov 15 02:35:12 2004:

I'd also like to nominate Aryeh Friedman, but I'm not sure that's within my
skill, so instead I nominate Brett Vachon.

#117 of 188 by naftee on Tue Nov 16 02:12:29 2004:

In case I haven't mentioned it yet, I nominate David Hoffman.

#118 of 188 by mfp on Tue Nov 16 02:48:50 2004:

I nominate Brett Vachon.

#119 of 188 by remmers on Tue Nov 16 14:09:28 2004:

Nominations are now closed. Nominees have until the start of voting
on December 1 to decide whether to accept and to get their membership
in order. Mail aruba@cyberspace.org if you have questions about your
membership status.

I'll post a list of nominees later.

#120 of 188 by tod on Tue Nov 16 16:36:17 2004:

What are the commands to look at membership status, etc?

#121 of 188 by albaugh on Tue Nov 16 22:23:26 2004:

Try !member at command prompt near you.

#122 of 188 by tod on Tue Nov 16 22:44:16 2004:

Yea...but what are the flags etc to get mroe than just a list of current
members? Isn't there something that will show dates, etc?

#123 of 188 by gelinas on Wed Nov 17 01:43:50 2004:

I suspect not. As I understand the "member" command, it merely reads
/etc/group, formatting the output more or less nicely.

#124 of 188 by tod on Wed Nov 17 05:06:29 2004:

I looked at the grex-scripts and now see it just scans the /etc/group as you
suggest. That's a bummer.

#125 of 188 by aruba on Thu Nov 18 16:51:51 2004:

What do you want to know, Tod?

#126 of 188 by tod on Thu Nov 18 17:00:52 2004:

Not to make comparisons, but on the M-Net member program, you can look at
people's duration of membership and expiry dates, etc.
I would like to get some stats on who the new members are, who the lifers are,
and who the sporadic types are.

#127 of 188 by other on Fri Nov 19 13:25:42 2004:

Can you give a cogent reason why that information should be public?

(Not that I think it shouldn't be, I just can't at the moment think of a
particular reason why it should be.)

#128 of 188 by tod on Fri Nov 19 14:55:36 2004:

I dont think its a requirement; just a nice feature.

#129 of 188 by aruba on Mon Nov 22 07:18:57 2004:

Yeah, the information about when people expire is not stored online. I feel
it's a bit of a violation of people's privacy. With that info, for
instance, you could figure out who pays yearly and who pays month-to-month.

#130 of 188 by tod on Mon Nov 22 17:55:46 2004:

How is that an invasion of privacy?

#131 of 188 by albaugh on Mon Nov 22 19:56:13 2004:

Dunno if it is, but it's probably none of [your] damn business, either.

#132 of 188 by tod on Mon Nov 22 21:16:10 2004:

That's a nice attitude. No wonder so many fine people are volunteering.

#133 of 188 by mooncat on Mon Nov 22 22:25:55 2004:

Well, people complain about having to show ID to the treasurer, so it
stands to reason that people might be sensitive about information
regarding their member status.

#134 of 188 by naftee on Mon Nov 22 23:21:34 2004:

Yeah, there might be some people who are ashamed of supporting a volunteer-run
organization.

#135 of 188 by aruba on Tue Nov 23 02:15:39 2004:

I don't know for sure, but I suspect, that some people who pay
month-to-month do so because they don't feel they have enough cash reserves
to pay for a whole year at once (which would save them money). They might
not like everyone to know that.

#136 of 188 by remmers on Sun Nov 28 15:28:37 2004:

I've just emailed all the nominees -- regardless whether they've
accepted, declined, or haven't indicated -- reminding them that
November 30 is the last day to accept the nomination and
establish voting membership.

Here's the nominee list that I scraped from this item. Apologies
in advance for any inaccuracies. The letters 'A' and 'D' stand
for "accept" and "decline", respectively. Again, anybody can
change their mind before December 1.

        albaugh
        cmcgee
        dpc A
        gelinas A
        happyboy
        janc D
        keesan D
        kip
        krj D
        mfp A
        munkey D
        naftee
        other
        remmers
        richard D
        scott D
        tod A
        vanloons A

In the event that I decide to accept my own nomination, would
it be okay to handle that as in the past: Have somebody other
than myself -- perhaps a staff person who isn't a candidate --
check the final count?

#137 of 188 by slynne on Sun Nov 28 17:45:49 2004:

That sounds acceptable to me.

#138 of 188 by aruba on Sun Nov 28 18:36:01 2004:

Sounds good to me too.

#139 of 188 by naftee on Sun Nov 28 19:28:59 2004:

Thanks remmers!

#140 of 188 by keesan on Mon Nov 29 01:19:44 2004:

Thanks to everyone who accepted and I hope others will do the same.

#141 of 188 by richard on Mon Nov 29 04:48:40 2004:

five nominees for three open seats? I think remmers better run or mfp would
be in danger of being elected :)

#142 of 188 by dpc on Mon Nov 29 18:32:37 2004:

While there are technically three "open" seats, one of them is held
by an incumbent who is running for re-election. Such folks are strongly
favored to win.

So there are only two seats lacking an incumbent.

#143 of 188 by tod on Mon Nov 29 18:48:45 2004:

Thanks remmers

#144 of 188 by naftee on Mon Nov 29 23:10:26 2004:

Who's the incumbent?!

#145 of 188 by remmers on Tue Nov 30 13:31:04 2004:

I've decided to pass on running for the Board.

Again, folks have until the end of the day (EST) to accept their nomination.
I've asked the treasurer to make sure membership information is up-to-date,
as this determines eligibility to run. I'll make up the final ballot and
turn on the vote program tomorrow, December 1, as early in the day as I can
get to it.

#146 of 188 by aruba on Tue Nov 30 19:25:55 2004:

I passed the membership info on to remmers.

#147 of 188 by remmers on Wed Dec 1 12:39:28 2004:

The polls are now open. Candidates are dpc, gelinas, tod, vanloons.

To vote from a tty (telnet, ssh, dialup) connection, type 'vote' at a
Unix shell prompt or '!vote' at just about any other prompt. To vote
on the web, go to http://cyberspace.org/cgi-bin/pw/voting-booth .

Candidates are reminded (I sent mail about this a few days ago) that
they can create a campaign statement that the vote program will display.
See my email for instructions; email me if you're having problems
setting it up, and I'll provide technical assistance.

#148 of 188 by dpc on Wed Dec 1 14:40:43 2004:

Thanks, John! I just voted, and the statements all looked fine.

#149 of 188 by other on Wed Dec 1 15:41:02 2004:

Gelinas' statement had some aspects that looked vaguely familiar... ;)

#150 of 188 by tod on Wed Dec 1 16:54:07 2004:

re #147
I'm kinda bummed I didn't find out about this e-mail before the elections
started because I had an old campaign statement in there. I hope it didn't
negatively impact any votes I may have received.

#151 of 188 by keesan on Wed Dec 1 18:22:53 2004:

I did not see any campaign statement for you when I ran the vote program, tod.
Let us know if you add one. People can revote.

#152 of 188 by tod on Wed Dec 1 21:05:28 2004:

I added one with permissions that allow people to even read it. I'm proud of
it. Please go back and re-read it. Re-read it a few times if you like. Its
FREE!

#159 of 188 by remmers on Thu Dec 16 14:46:29 2004:

    Joe Gelinas 37
    Dave Cahill 30
    Steve Van Loon 30
    Todd Plesco 10

to them, and thanks to all the candidates for participating.

#163 of 188 by aruba on Thu Dec 16 16:44:13 2004:

#168 of 188 by albaugh on Thu Dec 16 22:32:29 2004:

mpf, your admonition will be given all the consideration it's due.

#169 of 188 by mfp on Thu Dec 16 23:35:17 2004:

It won't be, and it's because you guys don't have critical thinking skills
that are as well-developed as mine.

#170 of 188 by other on Fri Dec 17 02:24:03 2004:

Critical stinking skills? No, I guess ours wouldn't be as well
developed as yours.

#171 of 188 by gelinas on Fri Dec 17 04:19:40 2004:

Out of curiousity, can we get a count of the non-member vote?

#172 of 188 by remmers on Fri Dec 17 16:31:58 2004:

Oh yes, I usually post that, slipped my mind. Here's the non-member
vote:
        dpc 27
        gelinas 22
        tod 21
        vanloons 31

That's actually a bit closer to the member vote than is usually the case.
On past occasions, the non-member rankings were sometimes almost the exact
opposite of the member rankings.

#173 of 188 by tod on Fri Dec 17 18:02:36 2004:

The guy who least uses BBS gets the most votes. LOL

#174 of 188 by albaugh on Fri Dec 17 19:32:23 2004:

Hey, maybe he lurks a lot and posts via a pseudo, because he's demur or ???

#175 of 188 by tod on Fri Dec 17 21:37:43 2004:

I think the trend is to trust strangers or else to see that someone is willing
to do work on hardware.

#176 of 188 by gelinas on Sat Dec 18 00:00:21 2004:

The Board doesn't work on hardware.

#177 of 188 by naftee on Sun Dec 19 04:04:47 2004:

congratulations, tod! Glad to have you a-board, rather than that Joe
Gelinas guy.

#178 of 188 by keesan on Mon Dec 20 03:30:40 2004:

I bet the partiers are mostly non-members.

#179 of 188 by cmcgee on Mon Dec 20 13:38:09 2004:

Actually, I'd bet the opposite. Does anyone have a rough count of who's
normally in party that is also a member and what % that might be in terms of
logins, as opponsed to lines of typing?

#180 of 188 by vanloons on Mon Dec 20 14:10:54 2004:

Thank you everybody. I just got back from India last night and today
is the first day that I could actually get in and look at Grex info.

#181 of 188 by mooncat on Mon Dec 20 16:41:09 2004:

I see you TOO!

#183 of 188 by mooncat on Mon Dec 20 18:13:18 2004:

#184 of 188 by mfp on Mon Dec 20 19:04:24 2004:

I see both of you, but only when you're on my left.

#185 of 188 by albaugh on Mon Dec 20 22:13:20 2004:

There was this kid's TV program 40 years ago called "Land of Play". The
