I need some input on the work of Jill Scott and Alicia Keys, who have sounded somewhat interesting when I've heard them on the late night talk shows. I tried to work up an interest in Erikah Badu, after her first album was praised to the skies by lots of critics, but I couldn't stand the sound of the synthetic percussion.2 responses total.
This is off the subject, but for an interesting article on the state of music equipment, you may want to check out http://www.msnbc.com/news/691577.asp?cp1=1 I mention it here because the article includes a bit about a drum manufacturer that specialized in synthetic drum heads now trying to imitate natural heads. Plus there's a lot about digital effects now being programmed to imitate old sounds formerly conisdered "defective" (hisses, pops and even 60 cycle hum). Maybe Erikah just needs to reprogram her synth drums ;)
