Many Grexers are involved in artistic performances; here's a chance to invite people to upcoming shows. If you're really shy, you can announce your performance after it happens. This item is linked between Winter 2002 Agora and Music conferences.32 responses total.
In Agora's general announcements item, Mary Remmers posted the following
about her orchestra:
Sunday, January 20th, 2:00 p.m., The University of Michigan
Life Sciences Orchestra will be performing at The Michigan Theater.
On the program:
Roman Carnival - Berlioz
Pelleas et Melisande - Faure
Fifth Symphony - Tchaikovsky
Admission is free. Hiller's is sponsoring a reception following
the performance.
((Mary, be sure I corrected the date properly...))
I'll be playing in the Nick Strange Trio (acoustic duo version) Feb. 1 at Crazy Wisdom Tea Room in Ann Arbor.
You got it just right, Ken. Thanks.
What are you playing on, Scott? And what is an acoustic duo version of a trio?
It means scott and the other player will each be playing with three hands.
I will be appearing at The Ark on Feb 1, at 8 pm. It's a triple bill including Robbie Schaefer (Eddie From Ohio) and Seth Bernard. Mike Fedel will be my accompanist. Tix at Ticketmaster, Borders, Michigan Union, Herb David and the Ark box office. $11.
Oh, yeah...I will also do two songs at DylanFest, Sat Jan 19, at Leopold's. Proceeds benefit SafeHouse. 21 and over, alas.
Re 4: We leave the drummer and the electric guitar at home. Well, the drummer at his home and the electric guitar at the guitarist's home. I'll be playing bass.
Re #7: Where is Leopold's?
I believe it is on Main St, near...Madison?
S. Main, right near where the railroad tracks cross. Where A&L auto parts used to be.
Oh right. I can never remeber the name of that place. That's good, now I have a good reason to go there.
Their house sound guy is not so hot (if Sunday was any measure). Be prepared to have your own people helping out with mix adjustment.
I will be appearing at the MIT rink Monday at 7 pm, smashing unsuspecting BU hockey players into the boards for your entertainment. Anyone care to come do sound? :)
I'd love to, but I don't think I'll be able to get into MA this weekend...
(Isn't BU ranked like #4 in their division or something? (I don't know for sure, I just saw something on USCHO about the Women's hockey scene))
Re #14: Certainly anyone from BU will simply be getting what they deserve.
re #16: Um, I dunno? Quite possibly. They're probably the most difficult team we play, especially now that the Bates game has been cancelled. I'm pretty sure we were the only team to beat them last year. Sadly, we lost to them this past fall. Time for revenge!
Do you ever play against Harvard?
No way, dude. At least not their varsity team. We do play their junior varsity team (who wins depends a lot on which of our players show up. Of the past 3 matchups, we lost two one-goal games and won one 9-4.) We also play the business school team. I think the Harvard varsity team is in an entirely different division--last I checked they had about 7 Olympians on the team.
Carol and I went to see Katie at the Ark last night - it was a good show, and the other two performers were OK too.
Indeed it was. I thought it started out slowly with Seth Bernard, but he won me over and really came into his own in the round-robin. Didn't care so much for Robbie's music (even if he did break the mold of cars and love), though he certainly added to the performance (no, really, someone should tell him to go to the bathroom during the intermission! (: ) Katie, of course, was the reason I was there and she did not disappoint. She even sang my favorite song. Thanks! (Note: I do reserve the right to have more than 1 favorite song.)
(Which song?)
That night, the song about some chick who frequently talks to her father only to learn that she should've been talking to her mother. (:
Hi, I'm Twill!
I'll be playing in the Nick Strange Trio next Wednesday at Leopold's in Ann Arbor. Finally a gig in town! (that's Wednesday, March 13)
cool scott. don;t go away from grex:(
don't leave grex to play at leopold's? I love that place. it's getting way too crowded lately, but it's still the goodest bar in ann arbor.
(I dropped out of Agora a couple days ago, which might be the source of that remark. Thanks to the magic of linked items I'm posting this from Music)
you cannot escape the Agora!
Well, true. I'm still arguing with Leeron in Fall item 175.
Short notice! TODAY! I'll be playing with the Nick Strange Acoustic Duo (that the Trio w/o a drummer) TODAY on WCBN. We'll be appearing on the "Pandora's Lunchbox" program at 6:30pm. (WCBN is 88.3 FM in Ann Arbor)
You have several choices:
