I will be "appearing" on Syracuse University College Radio, WERW (1570am
in Syracuse or werw.syr.edu on the web), Tuesday evenings from 7-9 pm.
General selection is mostly Classic Rock, but I do take requests. I
have been known to play some songs by groups that I heard about due to
Grex (Arrogant Worms, Captain Tractor). If you want to send in
requests, I will gladly accept them, and try to play them.

I will be appearing in a short play called 'Sightlines' on 12 January
2002 at Performance Network in Ann Arbor during the 12-hour theatrical
marathon fundraiser for Heartleande Theatre Company.

I will also be directing one or two other short pieces in the same event.

Stact (sea, dewshine) is the floor manager for "Goodnight Desdemona, Good
Morning Juliet" put on by Community High, tonight is the last night. Since
there is a balcony scene and the school has no balcony so they have to fudge
it, Staci gets to come on stage with a couple of very short (one - three word)
lines while they set up a kludge involving a defective stage light, a ladder
and the actress coming out of character long enough to climb the ladder.

It was well done and very funny. Staci is having a ball as are the other kids
involved. She is being lightly pressured to audition for the next comedy.
She hasn't yet decided which side of the stage she prefers.

That sounds cool.

#5 of 44 by other on Sat Nov 3 18:56:43 2001:

Hmm. I was just last night having a conversation in which I was drawing
some parallels between Juliet and Desdemona and the decisions they made
and the reasons why.

  ((( Agora 121  <--->  Music 51 )))

#7 of 44 by tsty on Sun Nov 4 14:44:54 2001:

in real life i am playing the MostRotten desdemona _ever_!

but then um likes to let poison drip into its ear whilst sleeping.

((i know i mixed them ... identify both for 10 extra credit points))

#8 of 44 by other on Sun Nov 4 18:49:41 2001:

1. You have the wrong plumbing to play Desdemona in real life, though I
doubt not that you might love a Moor.

2. Even Hamlet's father did not *like* to have poison poured into his
ear, that was merely the means by which Claudius disposed of him.

Your point being...?

#9 of 44 by lynne on Sun Nov 4 19:14:00 2001:

Actually, I believe poison in the ear was used in other Shakespeare plays
than Hamlet...can't *quite* recall if Othello was one. I want to say it
was referred to in a peripheral sense, but it's been too long since I last
read it.

#10 of 44 by mcnally on Mon Nov 5 00:20:00 2001:

Now I'm wondering if tsty's response to the previous item (120)
was meant for this item (121) instead.. Perhaps:

> (120) #13/13: TS Taylor (tsty) Sun, Nov 4, 2001 (10:01)
> alwyas leave them wanting more ......

was meant to be:

> always leave them wanting Moor ......

#11 of 44 by mliu on Mon Nov 5 12:02:27 2001:

Im not much in to Hamlet and that sort of things. what else is spoken about
here?

#12 of 44 by krj on Mon Nov 5 14:47:33 2001:

That depends on which version of "here" you are looking at.
This item appears in both the Agora and Music conferences.
Try "browse" for a list of subject headers, and "read since 11/1"
to see what's been written in the last five days.

#13 of 44 by tsty on Mon Nov 5 21:33:17 2001:

re #10 ..... great! that's too good an observation to be wrong!

re #8 ... bzzzzt, you only identified one, and you let a non-issue
of plumbing get in your way .... the plays are the reference points
for today's, in real life, tragedies.

re #9 YEHHHHHHH!!!! you named both othello and hamlet, the two
i mixed, metaphorically speaking, to describe how i'm just
a player in't.

<wanna try for the third?>

Looks like I might be playing bass with a local cajun band at some kind of
dance next weekend at the Pittsfield Grange.

#15 of 44 by glenda on Tue Nov 6 01:19:01 2001:

Staci is floor manager for Community High's next play - "The Virtuous Burglar"
play dates in approximately a month (exact dates to come later). She's having
fun following in Daddy's footsteps.

Tomorrow is Veterans Day, and two Detroit radio stations usually play my
rendition of a song called "Names On A Wall" on Veterans Day and Memorial
Day. The stations are WCSX 94.1FM and ALICE 106.7 FM, and if it is played
on WCSX it will be between 7 am and 1 pm (Over Easy program) and on ALICE
it would be between 8 am and noon (Alice's Restaurant). Heck, if you want
to request the song, WCSX's # is 313-298-WCSX and ALICE 's is 313-298-ALICE.

Re #14: Yes, Scott has agreed to play bass for our Cajun/Zydeco dance on
Friday, November 16 at the Pittsfield Grange Hall (on Ann Arbor-Saline
Road, about 1/2 mile south of I-94). The band should start around 8:30pm,
right after the dance lessons. I play Cajun accordion in the band Maison
Bleue, and also have to find new musicians to play when other folks can't
make it to gigs! :-) I'm really thankful Scott has agreed to play for us.

I also have Cajun/Zydeco jam sessions at the Grange, usually on the 1st
and 3rd Saturdays of each month, from 2-5pm. I even give out CZ sheet
music and CDs (although I need to burn a new batch of CDs). Y'all come on
out and pass a good time!

sells out. Other performers include William Bolcom, Joan Morris,
Bob Seely, Terry Parrish, Kerry Price, and Mike Montgomery. I'll
give more details as I get them.

I don't know if this counts as "on stage" or not, but my piano
playing can be heard on a new interactive CD-ROM from Archive
Impact called "American Scrapbook: Detroit Memories, Volume 1".
It's a retrospective of Detroit from the the turn of the
century to World War II, told in words, photographs, and
music. I perform "Ragtime Oriole" and "Princess Rag", both by
James Scott. Another featured performer on the CD is ragtime
pianist and historian Nan Bostick.

Latest info on the Holiday Ragtime Bash:

        Date/time: Sunday, Dec 9, 7:30pm
        Place: First Unitarian Universalist Church,
4001 Ann Arbor Saline Road, Lodi Twp.
Tickets: $15 regular admission, $12 student & seniors.
Advance tickets at Nicola's Books in Westgate
Shopping Center, or after Sunday's service.
Or you can purchase tickets at the door.

Performers include William Bolcom, Joan Morris, Mike Montgomery,
Bob Seely, Terry Parish, Kerry Price, and yours truly, among others.
The first half is a "survey" of the ragtime era, featuring works by major
composers such as Scott Joplin, Joe Lamb, James Scott, Charlie Johnson,
Artie Matthews, and Jelly Roll Morton. I'll be playing "Pearl of the
Harem" (1901) by Detroit composer Harry Guy. The second half will be
more free-form; I may be performing in it as well.

I suggest getting advance tickets or arriving early (like, 6:45).
I believe it's not reserved seating, so you might want to arrive early
even if you do get advance tickets. This is a very popular annual
event and always sells out.

Tomorrow night (Sat Dec 8) I will sing 3 songs at Trinity House Theatre's
"Christmas Around The House" benefit show. I will begin the second set, and
will be accompanied by The Usual Suspects. I will do two Melanie Christmas
songs (Christmas Lullaby" and "Tonight's The Kind of Night") and the
traditional" Cherry Tree Carol."

Fleming-Tamulevich agency called me today to ask me to perform at the Ark
on Feb 1, and I said yes. When asked what compensation I require, I replied,
"Just give me one of those big honkin' chocolate cookies." This show will
be a triple bill with Robbie Schaefer (of Eddie From Ohio) and Seth Barnard.
I will be accompanied by Mike Fedel on guitar.

Trinity House Theatre is located on Six Mile Rd in Livonia, at I-275. Just
20 minutes from downtown Ann Arbor. The show begins at 8pm. The Ark is
located in downtown Ann Arbor, just 20 minutes from Trinity House Theater. ;-)
