Is it time for a music conference restart?12 responses total.
I suppose I ought to be clear that I don't think that a restart or the lack of one is going to be the difference between the current comatose state of the music cf (or have we slipped beyond coma into a persistent vegetative state?) and a bold new era of free-flowing music discussion but I do think that the current clutter isn't doing much good and that the effort in starting up a few of the usual items might spark some activity for a change.
We have restarted the music conference every five years, more or less. The current conference is a little over four years old. The old music conference will not be destroyed; it will be available under the name "music3". Recently active items will get linked into the new music conference unless I can think of a compelling reason not to. (Antiquarians can get a historical thrill by checking out "music1" and "music2".) I'm inclined to start the ball rolling on this later this week or early next week.
I have written to the Conference Administrator to request the restart. Any new items started after, oh, 1 Nov or so will get linked into the new conference. Given my work and travel schedule, it will be at least a week before the new conference opens.
Conference restart has been delayed by the exciting twists and turns Grex has been through in the last few weeks, including one week of downtime and the loss of email between your music conference FWs and the conference administrator. But, things should be getting back on track now. What should go in item 1, the first thing all new readers of the music conference see. Currently it's a Picospan cheat sheet.
I think that's still a good idea, but maybe a list of prestarted items (Agora has the Happy Item, the System Problems item, etc.) should go in it too.
I would like to add mcnally as a fairwitness in the new conference. The conference administrator would like to see a demonstration of mcnally as one of our new overlords. Could we have some enthusiasm, please? Thanks.
Er, "demonstration OF ENTHUSIASM for mcnally as one of our new overlords." Sheesh.
I pledge that I will govern you wisely and fairly, and my justice will be tempered with mercy. :-p Seriously, though, I don't much care, except that several of the current fws are no longer regular participants, so the administrative burden for the conference (as mild as that is..) winds up falling on Ken.
Sounds fine to me.
Rah!
Work has gotten very busy in the pre-Christmas period, and I don't know if the restart will happen before the new year. We'll see; I should probably just throw together Generic Welcoming Text for item 1 and then throw things open.
Wow, getting the restart done took three months, most of which was \due to me being a slug. I have done the initial setup on the new music conference and asked walter/i, the conference administrator, to swap it into production. Once it goes live I will start a campaign to enter at least one response per day, which will probably mostly be babble about internet radio.
