I will be singing a big solo this Saturday in a cantata by Aaron Copland called "In the Beginning." It's all acappella, and quite challenging. The concert is being presented by the Vocal Arts Ensemble at Temple Beth Emeth/St. Clare's Episcopal Church, 2309 Packard Rd. in Ann Arbor. Admission is $10, $5 for students and seniors, children free. The concert begins at 8 PM and highlights the richness of ancient scripture. Selections include a variety of psalm settings by Josquin and Palestrina, as well as a renaissance setting in Hebrew, and a 3-psalm piece by contemporary Israeli composer Tsvi Avni.
In case you want another chance to hear this wonderful cantata, it will be repeated in a joint concert with the Zamir Chorale of Metropolitan Detroit on Sunday, May 22, 7 PM, at the Jewish Community Center, 6600 W. Maple Rd., West Bloomfield. Most of our May 14 repertoire will be repeated, and there will be several selections by Zamir alone. Both choirs will sing "In the Beginning." Admission prices are the same as May 14.
I like Aaron Copeland's music
I could do without the now-permanent association with "It's what's for dinner," but Copland can hardly be held responsible for that..
damn! afternoon i could make it ... night, not. sorry. i'd really liek to hear you sing again, too. /shuffles off, head bowed
quick recheck finds both spellings.
His music sounds good however you spell.
Katie Geddes and The Usual Suspects will perform at Green Wood Coffee House on Friday, May 20 at 8 pm. You can spot Grexer other there, as well, doing a terrific job of sound and recording. Katie Geddes and Matt Watroba will sing one duet at Pioneer High on Sun, May 15 between 3 and 3:30 pm, at the United Methodist Reunion gathering. Vocal harmony trio All About Eve (Katie, Debra Gerber, Deb Wood) will perform in the Chelsea Summer Concert Series on Aug 4, Aug 11, and Sept 8.
I'm performing in the Kickoff Concert of the Scott Joplin Festival in Sedalia, Missouri, on Thursday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m., at the Farewell Brunch on Sunday, June 5, and at other miscellaneous venues during the festival. Program details are at http://scottjoplin.org/festival.htm, and my musical "bio" for the festival is posted at http://scottjoplin.org/performers.htm . So if you're in vicinity of central Missouri on those dates, drop in and have a listen. Lots of events, many of them free, and many fine performers.
Hey I heard Katie, Deb, and Deb sing a number
of times and I've been missing them.
This is the first I've heard them called All About Eve.
Well, this is cool...I went to the Ark last night to hear Anne Hills and Tom Paxton, and after Dave Siglin scolded me for paying for a ticket, he asked me to be the opening act for one of the 40th Anniversary Fling concerts this July. So I'll either open for Dar Williams and Cheryl Wheeler, or Greg Brown, or John McCutcheon.
Dave went to the same high school as I.
But he graduated 11 years earlier.
He was classmates with Michael Moriarty and
slynne's dad.
UofD class of 59. small world
unlucky world :(
oops. Mr. Siglin was released back into society
in 1960. So "classmates" was misleading.
Don't fret Lynnette
re resp:7: I am bummed about the timing of the Katie Geddes and the Usual Suspects concert, as I haven't heard you for a couple of years now. I will be attending my niece's graduation that evening, in Tennessee. Have you come out with any new albums, Katie? Your WWW page is 2 years out of date.
Is Kevin Spacey a tenor or an alto?
I don't believe I care for the tenor of that question! ;-)
You alto get a sense of humor.
Just so you don't get hold of Tony from the Sapranos to make things happen.
Is a Saprano anything like Amethyst?
"The Sapranos" is a Christian-themed show about Italians in New Jersey who are not mobsters; they're sickly-sweet and maple flavored.
You mean like the E Street band?
With a dash of Martha Stewart.
Or every male that ever agrees to be a guest with his spouse on Dr.Phil
that is a bass accusation.
No, SAT would be a bassless accusation...
bru amde a joke .. duh! ,

I will be the opening act at the Ark on Fri, July 15, opening for Michael Cooney, Tom Paxton and John McCutcheon.
Ooh, Ooh! Can I go?! (The only Michael Cooney I know of works for CAMI -- Columbia Artists Management -- in NYC, but I love the work of Paxton and McCutcheon as well as Katie!)
I hope you'll go! If I'm allowed guest-list prvileges, I'll let you know. (I also get to back up Matt Watroba two days earlier, when he opens for Maura O'Connell, Nanci Griffith, and John Gorka.)
jeepers, I was quoting Tom Paxton right
here in spring agora.cf, item 92.
So I've shared a stage with someone who
will share a stage with Tom Paxton.
Can I ask myself for my own autograph?
I'll stand in line patiently.
I'll be appearing at the Sutter Creek Ragtime Festival, Sutter Creek, California, August 12-14. http://www.suttercreekragtime.com/festival_current_year.htm
