Item 99: Twisted Village! (Shameless plug)

Entered by orinoco on Sun Nov 23 17:57:49 1997:

While in Cambrige, I ran across a music store by the name of Twisted Villiage.
Peering in the window, I noticed that one of the albums they had on display
was a collection of Harry Partch! Well, any store that tries to attract
customers by showing off a Partch recording gets definite bonus points from
me, so I came back the next day when they were open to check it out. They
had a _great_ selection of weird, rare, and otherwise unusual music, including
three volumes of the new CRI Partch collection. What's more, not only did
the guy behind the counter know what I was talking about, he mentioned that
they sometimes get copies of a CD of _The Bewitched_, Partch's big
music-drama-lunacy which AFAIK had been out of print for _ages_.
They have a web site, which I haven't been able to connect to yet, but which
I was told has a full catalogue on it, and you can order from them by phone.
The site is http://www.twistedvillage.com/ and their phone number is (617)
354-6898. In addition to the Partch which I've raved about, they have a large
collection of experimental Jazz, unknown garage bands, Japanese rock (not the
bubblegum stuff you hear here, but what looked to be grunge, metal, and the
like), and music by modern composers. Given the range of musical tastes
around here, I figured people would want to know about this store.
