What _non-musical_ sound is going on in the background right now?107 responses total.
Train whistle at the end of the Beach Boy's "Pet Sounds" is playing as I type.. Other than that, nothing but the sound of my keyboard clicking and my computer fan humming..
the kitten gnawing on *something* in the kitchen. i suppose i should go find out what.
The cat purring in my lap, the computer fan, the hall clock ticking.
My co-worker snuffling (he has allergies big time), computer keyes clicking, fan running, me munching Frosted Flakes, and some weird crinkly noise, which I just figured out is his computer booting up.
Copier fan, jet overhead, coffee maker down the hall, a little piano/vocal from even further down the hall.
Dog collar rattling, boots being put on in the next room. Leaf rakiang outside.
Computer fan, little clicking noises from the keyboard, and occasional disk grinding and chair scraping.
ESPN on the telly, which is about the only sound you'll hear this early in this apartment.
Overly noisy bread machine kneading away in the kitchen.. Traffic from the street in front of the house.
Dan! Another great item! :) Seven or eight different printers, running at the same time at different speeds, with different pitches. A moderately quiet sea of keyboards clicking (I am in the middle of a 200 terminal computer lab). A low chatter of voices, of different volumes, pitches, and languages. The barely discernable squeak of the main doors to the lab, and the crash when they slam shut. Intermittent bursts of yelling or laughter. The prompt <DING!> of the other power Macs around me. Three people have coughed since I started this entry (that I've heard). A lab assistant's keys jingling as she walked by. Wow! I never realized how noisy this lab was!
I am in the basement with no windows or doors, and the only things to be heard being my typing, and my computer. Otherwise, dead silence.
Hum of Mac IIci; voices from adjacent office (thin walls); air conditioning hum and wind; clicking of keyboard; throat clearing (me); rustle of book being opened to find the spelling of; - tinitus.
Lots of keyboard keys being typed upon! The white noise of some kind of fan thingie at a level at/above the suspended ceiling. The occasional phone ringing with our electronic-age warble.
(Oh, come on snowth, there's _something_ else you're hearing) Dishwasher. Key clicks - of course.
I'm not hearing a whole lot that's differant that that which was stated above in various places: computer fan, TV in the background, furnace, etc. I can tell you that their are really two sounds that I would like to hear: the first is a train wistle, and the second is that sound of chirping crickets, one of the reason for my choosen namesake...
Its 6:15 a.m., so the computer lab is pretty much deserted. There is a <huge> kind of machine/vent/air conditioning/box-like contraption on the ceiling in this room giving off a fairly noisy, but uniform whrrrr/hummmmmm.... quiet keyboard tapping.... a woman is almost hysterical with laughter, but trying *very* hard to hold it in...she's making an odd squeaking/hissing noise that I don't believe I've ever heard before.... a man just slid his keys across the table..cool sound..... every time i even slightly adjust the way i'm sitting, my chair squeaks...
Thumping sounds upstairs. Someone's moving around. Slight creaks of the house settling. Computer fan hum and key clicks. Tap turning squeak, water running, pipes.
neighbors slamming their door, thumping up and down the stairs.
parents mumbling, radio on in the kitchen.
Car driving by the house, wife blow-drying her hair, car door slamming
Vegetables being peeled, brother laughing, cat walking on crinkly paper. Conversation about the football game on TV. Music emanating from the basement.
Footsteps. That is *not* good. What are people doing awake at 4:45 am?
Running water. Squeaky dog toy. Voices conversing. Music on a TV ad. Pots & pans rattling.
typing of other computer users and some fan or other probably connected to the ventilation system.
someone making meatloaf in the other room.
My own stumach. I should get something to eat.
the sound of my mommy vacuming downstairs.
Well, I am glad the furnace gave up on doing that "Whaa, Whaa" sound when the fan first starts up.
The usual noise of PC fans
Hmmm.. I'm listening to the *unusual* noise of (one particular) P.C. fan. One of the fans in my home machine seems to be going -- I can hear it fading in and out and making an unhealthy-sounding rattle every now and then..
Click click click of keys behind me... murmured conversation at my right, a cough from the rear right... fan above... the usual morning sounds at my office....
Dishwasher.
laundry machine
the clackety-clack of computer keys being pressed
Um, at the risk of sounding like a wanker, I like to think that all sounds are musical. But that's just me.
You're not a wanker, you're an electronic music fan. Figures. BIRDS! Like more than one at once! And a kind I haven't heard since last year, though I don't know what it's called.
resp:35 resp:36 Indeed.
Noise = The Boredoms.

Annoying high-pitched whine from disk drives

re #53: I take it you're trying to trade your CPU hum for Scott's "annoying high-pitched whine from disk drives"? Whacking your computer every minute or so doesn't sound particularly well-advised.
Ticking noise from oven (spinach lasagne!)

Tried blowing all the dust out of it yet?
CPU fans go for around $10, often less..
cars outside, loud drunk people. Music coming from the bar across the street when the door opens. The occasional polic siren. That's right folks, I've moved to the ghetto.

the next-door neighbor kid, driving up with his boom-box on. We call him "Thumper".
my cat performing his toilette (I like the word "toilette," but hearing a cat chew his nails is not a pleasant sound)
besides the music coming out of my computer (BNL cover of material girl), someones mowing their lawn and some bugs are making noise.
Sonic3 is playing in the background. I can hear cars on the road. And lots of crickets and bird chirps.
lots of computers humming and me typing.
about the same here-- the clicking of keys and the basic error message beeps
Just key clicking, plus occasional cat noises.
dogs barking outside, crickets outside. I wish I were hearing up north noises. Wow. I wanna live up north.
What are "up north noises?" I've really enjoyed the insect symphony this summer and I'm going to be sad as it tails off over the next few weeks.
"Up north noises" are the sound of Yoopers' teeth chattering.
..and the call of the northern loon: "Eh? Eh?" now playing at my location: a flock of crows, various chirping insects, and occasional traffic on Pontiac Trail..
The local crows seem to have relocated, so it's just crickets at the moment.
If you can positively identify your crows you can come over and see if this murder is yours..
(Umm...they're big and black?)
They're the ones.. You can claim them as soon as you pay for washing my car..
The sound of a snoring cat is lulling me at the moment.
Cats snore?
Computer fan, purring cats (cuddled together on the chair next to me), and Matt snoring.
humming of computers in this class. Teacher talking.
paper ripping, phones ringing, mumurs, and just cube farm noises.
the AC, some construction noise in the distance
Computer fan, co-workers discussing Anne Perry (the author, but my ears perk every time I hear it), fax machine, and other various office noises

A quiet, rhythmic jingling noise from a couple of small pieces of chain mail, tied up inside a sock attached to my ankle. They are in the process of being polished.
