Katie Geddes and her band of friends sang a fine concert tonight at the Green Wood Methodist Church. Katie's songs drew mostly on singer-songwriters from the 1970's to today; it was fun to hear old classics like "Suzanne" which I haven't heard for ages. Quite a few Grex and M-net people were in the crowd of about 100.15 responses total.

Katie has an incredibly versatile voice. She can sing a soft ballad with delicate tenderness then turn right around and deliver a powerful standard with a sensual huskiness and then switch again to a smooth liquid-voiced piece of jazz. All in the same set. Amazing. I enjoyed the concert a whole lot. Mark (aruba) gave Katie roses as she took her bows. It was a wonderful final touch.
Grexers (and m-netters) in attendance, who I spotted: katie of course, and marae singing harmony in the band; chelsea, remmers, aruba, keats, krj, arabella, and chelsea's sister Pat Ballard, whose Picospan days didn't overlap with mine,so I don't know her login.
It was "ballard", amazingly enough. Her husband Richard, also in attendance, used to M-Net -- his login was "teach". Immensely enjoyable concert. Wonderful singing by Katie, and a fine backup band as well.
I'm sorry I missed it, but the timing was bad. While most of y'all were sitting in one audience hearing Katie sing, I was sitting in a different audience hearing Janice sing.
how did that go?
i kan sing...LALALALALA LA LA LA sorry.
<working to many hours again - i miss hearing katie sing>

Tell us about the backup band.
Mark Brokaw on guitar, MIke Fedel on guitar/bass/background vocals, Joe Spaly on drums, Tom Wachterhauser on keyboards/egg, Marae Price on guitar and backup vocals, and Jen Hughes on percussion. Jen is a fiddler, but broke her arm before the concert.
Yeah, I was bummed about Jen's arm; I would have loved to have heard the show with the fiddle. I noticed that remmers' head kept bouncing -- with enthusiasm? -- on the two songs which were written by Gillian Welch, so I'll mention that Ms. Welch has a show coming up at the Ark on December 3. I'd be happy to loan you her CD if you're interested, John.
Which songs were those?
"Orphan Girl" was one, and I need to scratch my head a bit to remember the title of the second.
"Annabelle." I'll be at the Ark tomorrow night for Gillian Welch.
