I ran searches on Alta Vista and Yahoo for Westboys, and west boys as two separate strings. The only musical match was the Oak Ridge Boys, who are in the Country and WESTern genre. All the other matches appear to be for school sport teams. This is alarming; I can't recall the last time I did a web search for a musical performer and turned up *nothing*, not even a fan who mentioned them in a list of favorite artists. Give us some more clues, jiffer!9 responses total.
well... they are celtic! Sorry, I will talk to a few friends about it.
Are the Westboys an American Celtic band, or from one of the British Isles countries? Were their CDs self-released, on a small label, or on a major label; label name? When were they released? When and where did you get them?
Alta Vista tends to confuse things, and Yahoo only shows registered sites. The site I use for bands is www.ubl.com which gives *large* listings of bands I've never heard of, and all the ones I have.
www.ubl.com was pretty cool, but they didn't have anything either.
okay, here is the information i got from my friend Bryan. Westboys no longer is together. He was introduced to them about 6 years ago when he was stationed in England, and they only produced one CD. Which they had made themselves and only made like 100 of. Seems that what my freind Bryan has is a rarity, and was totally made when they broke up. They never really made anything of themselves, and from what he says, the band broke up due to finaicial reasons. (he also mentioned something about them all being students at the time as well). Oh well. SO, now i am not surprised that you can't find anything. sorry =(
Wow...that would qualify as a rarity, yes...
Hmm, that's odd. A band that the UBL doesn't have anything on. Weird :)
but steve, if they band went and paid for their own cd's being produced, they usually don't have any backing. from what bryan has told me, they had some spare time and money and used up both.
The UBL isn't a label driven page. Anybody who wants to put a band homepage on there can. It has nothing to do with success. The successful bands (anything from Fionna Apple to Pearl Jam and Nirvana) get bold type to help people pick them out. but those are few and far between compared to the sheer volume of unheard bands on there.
