Item 277: No, Lite Rock, not Smooth Rock on 93.9fm (Windsor-Detroit)

Entered by tpryan on Fri Aug 25 16:22:08 2000:

8/25/2000. It had to happen today. Smooth Rock, The River is
out, Lite Rock 93.9fm is now in it's place. Less talk, Yada Yada.
I think I'm hearing Hanson right now.
        What do you think?
What station do you think has a playlist like Smooth Rock did?

THe River is gone? Damnit.

I was just pissed because Planet finally changed to Alturnative all the time,
and then they stopped playing 5 o'clock flashbacks at all now. They're
"Modern Alternative". River was good to listen too, though..some of the nice
older stuff, but good.

What was The River before it was "smooth rock"?

#3 of 33 by eeyore on Fri Aug 25 18:29:31 2000:

93.9 is *GONE*????? My one true station to find decent music is GONE?

(meg hides in a corner bawling)

Same thing happened to WMXD in Ann Arbor. It became Kool 107. The River
was a poor-man's WMXD. What is the matter with the listeners/programmers
these days? I thought FM was invented to get away from smarm.

Yeah...the Planet switching ticked me off, and now the River is gone? Ugh. I
can't wait to install a cd player in my car.

#6 of 33 by iggy on Fri Aug 25 18:59:14 2000:

heh
the same thing happened in seattle.
one station changed to all 80's music, and in a few
weeks, all the stations started playing it.
screwed up their decent formats

I am seriously bummed right now - I loved 93.9 - it had great music.

#11 of 33 by ric on Fri Aug 25 20:50:58 2000:

The Planet isn't 80's/90's retro and alternative anymore? Man, that sucks...
their format was one of my favorites...

#12 of 33 by tpryan on Fri Aug 25 22:05:18 2000:

The River started as Rock & Blues & Reggae. They quickly learned
that the Reggae was not mixing in well. Blues got less emphasis. The
rock did get smoother from the river. Classic rock was always a part of
it, but it seemed to have a good mix.
I miss what WMXD was doing. They almost evolved into an
accoustic/adult/alternative station.
Maybe 106.7 (Alice) will finally get that car button. The thing
that kept me for that is that 106.7 has joined the conspiracy and plays
their commericials at the same time as 94.7. Anytime I tune into 106.7
, I soon tune out again as they go into the same 7 commercials in a row
without any tunes type of thing.

BTW, WMXD (Mix 92.3) is a Detroit station and, AFAIK, is still playing
its mix of "Classic Soul and Today's R&B."

You may have been thinking of the former WAMX (Mix 107) in Ann Arbor
before they became "Kool 107" and changed format twice (first to all
oldies, and more recently adult contemporary and featuring Delilah in
the evenings).

#14 of 33 by tpryan on Sat Aug 26 15:53:22 2000:

Kool 107 seems to have slowly gone back to playing more oldies and
less current adult contemporary.
I have wondered if an oldies stations each year would add another
year of music to it's playlist, would they hold onto the audience they
where shotting for in the first place? WCSX, 94.7, Classic seems to
have done this. They originally played little early 80's Classic Rock,
but now embrace it.

#15 of 33 by katie on Sun Aug 27 03:08:17 2000:

Yes, I meant WAMX.

I like WMXD a lot, too.

#16 of 33 by eeyore on Sun Aug 27 03:15:37 2000:

WCSX is Classic Rock...the rock that has been around for years. 'Bout gave
me a heart attack when they started playing U2.

Too bad they have that anti-semite JJ Johnson

I've gone from listening to wither ham radio or WUOM to listening to
the Planet neatrly all the time. It's still 80's/90's as near as I can tell,
the also throw some new tunes in that fit with the other stuff. I'm liking
radio right now. So, no more AAA in the 6th largest radio market in the
country....interesting...

It's not surprising that Grexers miss The Rimmer.
Ugh. A person can only handle so much of the Indigo Girls.

#20 of 33 by slynne on Thu Sep 7 21:14:43 2000:

Hey now, there is nothing wrong with the Indigo Girls.

#21 of 33 by jerryr on Thu Sep 7 21:49:14 2000:

it was a holy war.
some of the cats believed the one true father of catkind was a man
called cloister, who saved frankenstein, the holy mother, and was frozen
in time by the evil men who sought to kill her.

#30 of 33 by brighn on Fri Sep 15 13:36:52 2000:

Has this become the non sequitor item?

#31 of 33 by tpryan on Fri Sep 15 16:00:41 2000:

Looks more like the Red Drift item.

#32 of 33 by iggy on Fri Sep 15 17:44:13 2000:
