"Soundtrack" Danny Elfman, "Oingo Boingo" Danny Elfman, or "film star"
Danny Elfman? (do *not* watch "the Forbidden Zone" -- you have been warned!)

Well, Danny Elfman's music has a certain quality to it-- if you've
listened to his soundtracks and Oingo Boingo albums when he was a part
of the band, you would hear a connection, probably. I've heard a bit of
a Oingo Boingo album that was during the Elfman years, and it bore his
stamp of influence pretty heavily-- I almost thought it was one of his
soundtracks.

Yeah, he and Tim Burton have a pretty tight working relationship.
This past Tuesday, NPR interviewed him for a half an hour.
I was in heaven.

I think my favorite Elfmann soundtracks are Edward Scissorhands, and
The Nightmare before CHristmas.

I have TIm Burton's last book "The melancholy death of Oyster Boy and
other stories" and it is very interesting. If you like Shel Silverstien
and have goth tentencies, check it out.

Ummm...Pardon my ignorance, but...

<sigh>

Who's Danny Elfmann?

#5 of 12 by mcnally on Tue Apr 13 05:56:41 1999:

He's a fairly well-known musician and movie score composer.
At this point he's probably best known for his movie scores --
he's been very much in demand to do them for the past 8-10 years..

Before launching his soundtrack career he was in a 1980s band
called "Oingo Boingo". He's made one or two odd film cameos, too.

If you've seen any recent Tim Burton movies, the soundtrack was probably
Elfmann.

He also did the soundtrack for at least the first Batman film (recent, not
the 60's film).

In the Rodney Dangerfield film "Back to School" Oingo Boingo have a cameo.

Oingo Boingo is also well known for the soundtrac and title song to "Weird
Science."

Ok. I'm pseudo-familiar with Oingo Boingo. I mean I've heard of them.

I bought "the" soundtrack for Batman because
I needed to hear more of that spooky, bombastic
orchestral sound he was getting. But the recording
turned to be all Prince. Man was that disappointing.

Right, there's the little-promoted soundtrack, then there's the "Songs
insprired by" Prince album. :(

I love Danny Elfman, I love Oingo Boingo, I love Boingo, and the Elfman/Burton
marriage is a wonderful thing. =)
