Well, it looks like prashk has not been back.  But I would be curious 
in exploring the issue of why Anglo-American classic rock has such a 
lure for Indians.  The converse is hardly true: Indian and Indian-flavored
music is an obscure interest here in the USA.

  Interesting question..  I would suspect that exposure and image are
  the main reasons.

  In the U.S. a large percentage of those who might like Indian music
  are never even exposed to any, leaving it as an obscure niche genre
  popular only among a small number who have actively sought it out or
  who have been exposed through some other influence than the popular
  broadcast outlets.

  If lack of exposure explains the obscurity of Indian music in the
  USA, I suspect that attitude can largely explain the popularity of
  certain western music among Indians.  Rock in particular has always
  positioned itself as an anti-traditional, modern art form.  I can
  imagine that image holding great appeal among the youth of a developing
  nation.
