What *can* you say? The man was a legend and will be sorely missed, but his music will endure. The world is better for him being here, and giving us those wonderful movies, the juicy gossip, and that heavenly music. In those he will live on forever.
Yep-- it's just too bad his last years weren't too great-- he sometimes sang really sloshed, from what I hear.
He would forget lyrics, where he was.... I honestly never really liked him, but I can respect what he did for music, and his talent.
Chet Baker was a better singer. Too bad the drugs got in the way.
I liked his voice, and enjoyed his songs, but the main thing I've enjoyed about Sinatra was his films (On The Town, The Manchurian Candidate, Guys and Dolls, Von Ryan's Express, etc. ....). I'm willing to forgive him for associating himself with Cannonball Run 2.
Hmm...The Manchurian Canidate" was a pretty darn cool movie.
Yes, a very *atypical* war movie.
I liked Sinatra in "Some Came Running". That one proved that he could act, and do it well. I also enjoyed "Oceans Eleven" a movie with the Rat Pack plotting to rip off 5 Las Vegas casinos. Fun, but nothing monumental.
Hmmm...I'll have to check out the former. What's it about?
so how did he get the nickname "chairman of the board?"
Sorry, my quick poking around via Alta Vista didn't have any explanations of how he got that title. Need to read a biography, I guess...
Because he was the one in charge of the Rat Pack.
I'm sad that I never managed to see him perform. I've been into him for years, but I've generally stayed away from larger shows of any kind, due to lack of intimacy and larger ticket prices. For a while, I had a vinyl copy of a Sinatra album on permanent loan from my parents. It had no trouble fitting right into my collection, at all. That's how timeless he was. "From the brim to the dregs, it poured sweet and clear. It was a very good year..." So, long, Frank. Thanks for the memories...
