VMS Mail. You read; you send. You receive; you transmit. No virii.

Oh, I don't think I'm confusing exchange with lotus notes. This *is* the mail software that eats machines for breakfast and wants more? The one that needs a full-time person to baby-sit it just to keep it from self-destructing? The one where security was so much of an after-thought that the anti-virus "fixes" cripple it?

re: 11 -- No, that's Lotus Notes. A properly-built Exchange server will run for months, with little intervention. And as long as you update your virus defs (which do not cripple the server), it's all good. The security issues are problems with Outlook, not Exchange Server.

Because it was not built properly. Why is it the Exchange server I built at work hasn't been rebooted in a month, and is faster than greased shit?
Greased shit?!?!?! I'm using Exchange here at work right now and it's kinda like greased shit too... er, wait... I meant greasy shit.
I miss VMS mail.
Me, too. Elegance by simplicity. Do one thing and do it well.
i have to use lotus notes at work. and at times i am VERY frustrated with it. uuf!
We use Lotus Notes, and I am always frustrated with it. We're going to be switching to MS Outlook in the near future. I expect not to like that a lot more, but at least the user interface is not designed specifically to prevent the sending, receiving and storing of e-mail. It's designed, instead, to encourage the spread of system-destroying viruses. This, at a company that sometimes sends one-line text messages as MS Word attachments. A company which daily sends links to an internal WWW site, from which you read MS Word attachments that are 1-5 screen text messages. (Psst! Guys! Just send the text, right in the body of the e-mail!)
One of my coworkers, who is a certified lotus notes administrator (that's not what she's doing now) says that John is correct. Lotis Notes is specifically designed to prevent the sending, receiving and storing of email.
Why did you have to ask, Rick? You know I never exaggerate. Exaggeration is the worst possible thing anyone can ever do. Everyone who ever exaggerates, about anything, should be shot, carved into little bits, ground up, and then flushed down the garbage disposal.
and then the garbage disposal should be incinerated by an ATOMIC BOMB!
only after you strap a couple of young orphans to it
and gay baby harp seals
for JESUS!!!
don't forget to make 'em cripples
and the exchange server i help administer works JustFine (tm) for a long time also .. months and months .. and all through the 'ifuckyou' virus attack (didn't have to shut it down either .. bwaaaaaaaaa!) actually, hasn't needed/wanted a reboot since before january 2000.
M-Net is up again. Yay!
How do you dial into M-net again, I think I forgot.
resp:29 - LIAR!!! I just tried it and it is still down. Man am I a sucker or what? sheesh
yeah, jerryr suckered me into trying mnet too. i wouldnt mind being on mnet early, except i cant offer any technical bug help.
m-nut is up fo a select list of beta testers. sorry if you aren't on that list, i had nothing to do with it. note to void and slynne: the july.cf is good to go.
I didn't discuss being a beta tester with anyone. I just logged in via telnet this morning. The WWW is still down, and I don't know about the dialouts, but telnet has been working all day.
you are one of the chosen few, john. it was bestowed on ya, no one asked for it. well, not true, i was asked to set up the july.cf and see if it went smoothly. for those of you not able to log on - it's very quiet and a little buggy yet, so i wouldn't feel all that left out.
it's because YOU'RE SO DAMNED COOL
Oh, okay then. I hope someone beta-tests the dialins then.
Oh. Well, sorry I mentioned it here, then. I thought the messages I was seeing were old and that the beta testing was done.
nope. I won't be leaving old messages. I think everyone I've seen in this item is "on the list" except igbor, whom I'm gonna add in a sec.
m-net's dialin number (in ann arbor) is 585-0100, you should enter mnet at the first login prompt, and return at the second. let us know if this works, tim
re: #39 heh, he said igbor
I dialed 585-0010 (the number I have in my procomm screen), got to WWnet. Gave it the mnet and second return, got the TTS Authenticated message, then a wait (about two minutes) then a disconnect and NO CARRIER.
I dialed 661-1234 and got a differnt screen presentation....
Ascend Pipeline Terminal Server
Login: mnet
password:
Connecting to 209.142.209.146 ...
another long wait before disconnect message and NO CARRIER.
ohh.. i'm going to try soon! thanks
okay, i can fix that. I'll get the dialins working on monday.
TThank you, rex.
Hey, whyncha let me back in while yer at it. I promise to behave.
Ha.
M-net is FAST!

hey, trex, don't forget to have Kenny McCormick kill the Grim Reaper. (then have ice cream). Gee that was a sticky situation.
Yeah, it looks like trex hasn't bound the IP that our radius servers forward user mnet to to mnet yet. So you're authenticating and then being sent to a dead IP right now. I think trex is working on it, he emailed me about it today. And for those of you dialing into the 585-0010 number, you might want to start using a new number. That one is going away in short order. It'll be gone in the next month or two. Basically, if you're not dialing into a -1234, -4321 or -3055 number (those being the last 4 digits) then you should be. If you need to find a new number, see http://www.wwnet.net/numbers.html for a list. Anything listed in the "out of area access numbers" or "33.6" column won't work though. Just the 56k ones. There are lots of them :)
the dialins have been fixed, with thanks to tony. the !phones command has been updated on m-net, and the updated number list can be accessed from the web at: http://m-net.arbornet.org/pho nes
let md back in!
Yew *really* fergat yore pills this tahm, dincha Timmy?
it wasn't fair. you'd only gotten to 'j'.
Pussies.

Probably, if the pussies hadn't kicked me off.
