I'm happy that agora rolled over nicely.
I'm happy the agora roll instructions made sense :)
I'm happy that it only took 4 1/2 hours to put together an Office Depot desk for my son without any missing screws or misaligned drawers. He gave me a hug when he saw the finished product. Worth it.
And no parts left over?
I'm happy that Michigan won the Citrus Bowl, and, thanks to ESPNWatch live streaming, I got to see it. :)
I am also happy to have seen that game and that Michigan won convincingly (41-7) over Florida.
I'm glad that someone was able to fix the candidate list, resolving the problems voting.
It was me, gelinas. I noticed the issue. 3 candidates instead of 4. That's all it took.
re #4 2 screws were left over I'm sure they're for the flux capacitor
Sometimes they throw in a couple extra screws. Much easier and cheaper than dealing with complaints about being a couple screws short.
My guess is their biggest complaints have to do with nicks and chips in the fake finish. Several corners were chipped or gouged..it isn't packed with much cushion. Sauder=SawDust
Yeah, I'll bet you are right. If they don't pack it well, then when they drop it, things get dented or whatever. Sawdust, yes, that sounds right.
I need to find a marker/paint which resembles the cherry wood finish they use so I can cover the nicks. Any recommendations?

re #15 Thanks, found cherry IdealWorks Furniture repair markers...6 colors for $10 on Amazon
Why doesn't grex have a *like* feature?
If you like something you can just say so. It's kind of hard to see how a like feature would work from the command line. Maybe a way to put a star on someone's response?
re #16 This was written by UofM, not MIT, m'kay?
#17, was joking!
Okay, well, it would take some doing to make it work and you know, it probably wouldn't be all that useful around here, so yeah, more of joke than anything :)

IHB I interviewed and got a new job. IAHB I'm almost done filling out the forms for said new job. Further IHB I almost have one really complex data set matching on independent programming. If I can get that done, then there is just one more to do.
re #25 Congrats!!
#25 Congratulations Kent!
Thanks tod and walkman! And IHB I'm almost done with the program from hell that they changed a dozen times in the last week. Only one more variable to get matching the source data. Hopefully, it will be done today, with any luck.
Congratulations, Kent. IAHB Son-chan ranked 1st in a class of 162 students at the Maneuver Captains Course. This course is the "career level" course for Army officers. (Equivalent to the Amphibous Warfare School for Marine Officers, for those who know. ;) Son-chan is happy, too, I hear. :)
Thanks, gelinas. And congratulations.
IHB because my QC program was right tonight, even though the lead programmer thought source was right. The data and the specs support my side of it.
IHB I was able to mount a drive that I pulled from my primary PC, which recently failed. I cobbled together a replacement PC from parts that I had laying around and now I am copying files from the old disk. Almost all of the data exists elsewhere but this is going to save me the work it would take to rebuild things.
That's great, Andy, congrats. I've had disks that failed to read and then one day they would respond and it was a big rush to back them up before they stopped reading again. As you say, even if you can rebuild from other sources, it's nice to get everything back at once. IHB today is my first day on my new job and all the people I'm currently dealing with are in the same time zone as I'm in. Account information is being sent and now it's just when will Fedex deliver my laptop?
IHB I figured out how to do 0 wipes on external USB drives using a Mac at 2.5x the speed as a DBAN takes.
Re #34: Are you using dd?

Just stumbled upon the backtalk conferencing system, and then grex. Made my day!
Welcome to Grex mikeos!
I'm happy because thanks to my hearing aids, I can now hear sounds that don't even exist.

IHB I got all my training in my new job done (it was training for two different employers, the one I'm on salary for and the one I do work for.
re #42 Congrats! re #41 Is that the end of Clockwork Orange?
#42 Congratulations Kent!
re #42 I use OneNote for my web based trainings so I can reference those notes through out the year to refresh my skills...and then for annual renewal it's right there. OneNote is very nice..wish Mac had a way to interface it.
I'm happy because Grex is back up! :-)
IHB Grex is back up, too. Thanks tod and walkman. Now I'm working through getting permissions to all the applications I need to do my job. At least I'm back to the Unix shell I like to use and an app that I used to be very good at using. It's coming back a bit at a time. Hopefully having had 5 years experience with it will cut short the current re-learning curve by a lot. I haven't really gotten into OneNote much. I guess I should give it a shot and see how well it works for note taking. Normally I just use pen and paper, but that makes it difficult to find notes later for review through out the year. I know at least one other person that swears by OneNote.
re #47 Nothing beats the Windows+S combo in OneNote, imo. It's great for doing snapshots and then putting narratives below them.
#48 I thought there was a One Note for mac? Do you mean you can't synch to it from another device?
Re #43: I didn't think of it that way, to be honest. I can see that angle now. The dopamine jolts probably work better than Ludovico technique.
Since i just read an item about a grex feature request, i will add one of my own (unless it's already a feature?): Can you/it would be nice if, you could share a conference between different grex servers. So you post in a conference and that same conference is shared with affiliate/subscribed grex servers, (it might be the only conference/or topic on any particular server which is shared this way)--- is it/can it, has it??? :P
re #49 The OneNote for Mac only works with M$ Cloud storage..you can't grab a local *.one file or *.onepkg notebook and import it. Very annoying..I dont need big brother nor a OneCloud hack to access my stuff..nor do I want to rely on Internet sessions for Mac OneNote.
IHB someone on YouTube combined my 2006 performance of Adaline Shepard's 1906 rag "Pickles and Peppers" at the Old Time Piano Playing Contest with Keystone Kops footage. https://youtu.be/a8jphxpi1ro
This response has been erased.
Re *:51, above: The idea has been considered. Keeping the items on separate servers synchronised is not easy. Since we only have one server, and the conferences are in decline, the feature is not likely to garner staff time.
gelinas: thanks for answering my question. That makes sense. It is at least possible?
Anything is possible. But I don't think anyone is willing to rewrite the conferencing software to run on multiple servers.
It seems fine just as it is. I was just wondering. It is a cool feature that is implemented on the citadel bbs software. Grex is way cool, and the web/text client aspect (of backtalk/fronttalk), which are both as accessible is brilliant.
I'm happy because I realized that "the cloud" will save the tech world from a certain demise. Cloud-everything! I can fit-bit it to my facebook! Oh and the UN will take control of ICAN which means more freedoms.

IHB I'm off for a few days. I'm always happy when I get a few days off (more than a weekend). I'm also happy that today I had lunch with some of the people I used to work with in a previous job and it was fun to hear everyone again and the food was reasonable, too.
Happy new year Grex, 2017 will be good if we wish it!
I am happy because i remembered to log in to Grex and wish everyone here a: Happy New Year! Christmas is officially over today (or has it just begun? :) ), and maybe i will get to know some of the people here before the year is out.
Happy New Year, Mike!
Okay, I got an extra effort award for all the time I put in last year. Not sure what it is worth. Probably not enough to buy a new truck. Oh well.
Grex is back up!
For now.
IHB I got a raise and a bonus this year, something my previous job either never did (bonuses) or rarely did (raises).
Congrats!!
Thanks!
Grex has been up for 33 days. Great job!
IHB as of today, 11.74% of the time has already elapsed between Nov 7 2016 and Nov 3 2020.
Is that when you'll become fully vested?

re #78 Let me know when you're in Berkeley
I have a friend who is paraplegic who just bought 2.5 acres of forest with basically a shack on it. He's fixing it up and living semi-offgrid. He's a recovering alcoholic, and an AA sponsor. I went out there today to see his place and to help with a few things. The man is endlessly optimistic, hard working, and believes in living the way he feels is best. I guess this is happy-item material because it proves that even with huge obstacles in your way, you can accomplish a lot in this life.
Good for him! Yes lifeis what you make of what you have. One of my close buddies has a broken neck c2/c3 which means he cannot feel from his shoulder to his toes. He has an inominateable spirit in spite of this, nothing has ever kept the guy from living how he thought best. Yes living the goodlife no matter what obstacles you have to surmount, is indeed the Happiest of items. Life is never easy, but it is always worth your best efforts. Strength to us all!
Happy Father's Day to everyone on grex!
Thank you, Father!
Make that an early happy father's day! My kids got up and made me breakfast, my wife is out of town so she didn't stop them, and I had no idea when father's day was... wasn't til I looked at a calendar that I realized they were a week early!
A week early is a good idea

I've given up on the Chevy routers...I'm all about the Honda
IHB we got a big project pushed out this evening. Lot of long hours on this one. Crazy changes at the last minute, of course. Monday it's off on the next project which supposely won't be changing much but we already hear of changes, some of them iffy in terms of the assumptions they make about the data.
Congratulations.
Thanks!
Yay! It's always fun to launch something.
I could deal without the kind of fun we had with this one. We'll see how it goes. I'm hoping for good reviews.
I like finishing projects. It's like launching a ship in the 1600s.
Goodluck, and well done!
Thanks everyone. We started the new project today and hit immediate issues. I've worked through some of them already. We have a second ad hoc project on top of the new one that is taking precedence for a few days (with its own issues). One thing after another, that's what I have to put up with every day.
IHB bellstar hasn't been apprehended for the Game of Thrones thing
I am happy because today is Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving Grexers! Have an extra slice of turkey for me. We had lasagne.
I'm thankful for Grex, both the system and the community.
Happy Thanksgiving, from England! ball: what nice words! I am thankful to be a member of the Grex community, and hope there will be many more people like you to grace this wonderful system in the coming years.
I'm happy that I got a buck for the freezer the other day.
I would have paid you two, Dan
Would it have had 7 points?

Nice.
Happy 2018, Grexers. Wishing a successful year to all and more party users on Grex!
Happy New Year to grex!
Happy new year all!
Happy New Year! (19 hours since Big Ben chimed)

why do Germans love USA? because US americans are the most hated people in the world now hahahhahah
I'm happy because a headache let me stay home from work today.
I'm happy that it snowed so much, i got the day off - and got to chat with papa this afternoon, who also had the day off of work today.
IHB my knee stopped hurting finally. It's 3am but still.
I'm happy Tod's knee stopped hurting. I have knee issues as well. *shakes fist at sky* I'm also happy because our clothes dryer stopped heating but I was able to fix the problem simply by fixing the little dryer vent hose on the back. I'm not keep to calling pros who rip you off when sometimes a youtube video and ebay/amazon parts can get 'er done. In this case i was lucky.
I'm happy because I found a weather map at
http://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/exper/nationalforecastchart/map.php
that seems to meet my need. It's experimental, so I have to figure out some
comments to make it stick around. (The NOAA is running a survey to solicit
comments on the new format.)
IHB joe shared that link - cool find
I'm happy because we managed to pull off a last-minute Thanksgiving dinner for the family (just three of us this year) wIth a delicious pot roast, baked potatoes, salad, and wine! Deo gratia!
IHB I finally saw MI:Fallout (thanks Bezos)
IHB the pumpkin pie I made the next day came out well, too. :)
IHB I have that 'after dinner glow' and all is well with the world. :)
resp:131 Good times.
It's been a year since anyone was happy? I'm happy that my new machine is working. I had to install Auristor to get access to afs, but all of my other programs seem to be working. I set up the new machine from a Time Machine backup of the old one, which was running El Capitan. The new machine is running Mojave, so I'm really surprised that everything is working, especially Quicken 2007. mh works, too. :)
re #133 Congrats! That's very surprising you could make the jump including Quicken'07 IHB We sold our company to a public traded one and now have merged into a swiss army knife of the same caliber.
I'm happy because I have a Raspberry Pi running nicely with NetBSD/evbarm 8.0. This one is a (single-core) model B with 512M RAM. I would like to be able to use my Raspberry Pi 2 model B (quad-core, 1G RAM) but so far that one only works with Linux.
Nice! I've got a couple Pi's here I want to put to use but I don't really have the time.
IHB I got an SSD drive working in an old dual-core computer a couple days ago. It speeded it up quite a bit and is a lot quieter than the mechanical hard drive it replaced.
I'm happy to be an official member of Grex! :)
:)
Today IHB we finally delivered part of the study tables and listings that we've been working on for the last few months. Of course after passing everything, the statisicians wanted to change several tables and listings. We got it all fixed and sent out by 8 p.m. So that's that. Now next week we have the other half to send out, which will be another slog. However we don't have to work the weekend, so I can get some rest.
Congratulations.
Thanks. Projects here are like 3 steps forward and 2 back, but you eventually get to the end.
#137 Nice! I have put SSD drives in old machines. Huge speed boost and more reliable.
IHB watching Phantom of the Opera at the Pantages wasn't as painful as I'd expected
Eating a huge bowl of Captain Crunch now. I find that lowering the expectations bar brings the happiness levels higher.
IHB this weekend I can stock up on gifts for my sons for their birthdays later this year. $1 for mugs with slogans on them such as "Best Dad" "Best Dad Ever" "My Hero Dad" "Hey Dad, You're Great" File under Whimsy
It took a while but I finally convinced my kids to skip the gifts for b-day and fathers day. It's almost as if by magic I tend to accumulate more stuff than I want. Once I have something, I'm illogically reluctant to part with it ... I might need it at some unspecified time in the future. My next step is to convince them that on my b-day and fathers day they have to accept something from me that I no longer need :)
I ask my sons for good grades for my birthday. Sometimes they remember.
IHB today is the 50th anniversary of humanity's first landing on the Moon. Thank you Neil (R.I.P.), Buzz, and everyone else who contributed to Project Apollo.

IHB I met a fellow-Grexer in the flesh for the first time -- mijk in London last Saturday.
re #152 Thaqt's pretty neat. Where in London?
resp:153 At the gruesomely named Hung, Drawn, and Quartered pub across the street from the Tower of London.
re #154 I remember the place. Fish & chips sign caught my eye...every where else curry or something pretending to be Thai
resp:155 I remember the first time I visited London in the 1990s that one had to look to find fish & chips instead of curry. Today it seems they take a little more pride in traditional pub food.
I spilled some curry fries on my shirt while driving M50 in Ireland. That's the part of the experience discovering that the Launderette at the Top gas station takes 3 hours to dry clothes.
On one my work trips to the UK my boss (from the UK) told me to pass (overtake) in the middle lane (suicide lane), and do it fast! Apparently, in the UK if there are broken squiggly lines and three lanes, either direction can use the middle lane for passing. On top of that the middle lane was extra narrow, so while I was passing oncoming cars had to make way. Not really a good move for a visitor. I think by boss my testing my wits.

IHB it's FRIDAY!
Happy Christmas!
To you, your family, and all Grexers, too!
Wow, has it really been five years since this .cf was rolled? Is tod the FW here as well? lol
We could roll it but it would take 5 years to build it back up again, probably. I have the roll instructions just not the time.
IHB lar has single-handedly Made BackTalk Fun Again!
re #163 If I was FW here then 5 would seem like yesterday
IHB today I fixed an issue in a reporting system that few understand and certainly not the person who set it up for their study. Curiousity sometimes pays off when debugging weird issues.
People protesting the corona lock-down are domestic terrorists. People rioting, looking and setting buildings on fire in MPLS have had enough and are merely expressing themselves. Social media must fact check conservative ideas. Social media are not the arbiters of truth. You can get corona virus in a bar. You can't get corona virus in Walmart. Welcome to 2020. resp:178 Congratulations.
Thanks!
Sometimes the squeaky wheel does get the grease. I had a 1:1 with my boss's boss (vice president) a couple weeks back and he asked if I was having any problems. I said 'yeah, my laptop keeps me from doing my job productively.' He said he had no problem getting me a better laptop and today it arrives. It's still not the highest end of the models but it's not a dual-core. Thus I'm happy applications will run faster and not crash so much (knock wood).
https://tinyurl.com/yae5bkzz
Golf clap...and yes, it is a much better laptop and I've already seen difference: I'm not waiting 2 min. for files to load. And I don't have all the issues with programs that I had with the other ones. So, getting more done and spending less time in the chair now.
Still working at this place. My boss quit and I took over her work. Might got into October now. So, from an income point of view that makes me happy.
IHB yesterday evening I solved a program problem between SAS ODS and the RTF file a program was creating. I was able to help the programmer without even seeing the code, so after determining that RTF was the type of output being produced, we dug into the structure of the program and found it had multiple parts. Fortunately we could add the right code in the right place to achieve the result the programmer wanted.

Hi all. I heard about grex from SDF's bboard.
I'm happy because I have a working virtual network connection to a VAX that I'm emulating in simh, so I can get files and data in and out of it.
resp:191 Welcome, kj8am! Now you really are elite!
resp:192 Congratulations! An accomplishment to be proud of.
resp:192 Very good! Nice that you still can use a VAX and make it work!
Happy Veterans Day to tod and all the other veterans here at Grex!
Agreed! Happy Veterans Day (belated).
IHB because I interviewed for a position in another project at my current company and got the job. And better yet, this department says they generally don't have to work overtime. I guess, we'll see about the overtime, but less than we work now would be nice. It's another manager job, but just people this time, no need to help the programmers like I do currently. Hopefully will be good for another couple years or so.
Congratulations on that new position!
re #199 Congrats, Kent! Sounds like you can finally breath
Thanks! Looking forward to learning a new area and if people are reasonable that would be a big help.
Re. 199: Well done!
Thanks, Andy.
I'm happy because NetBSD/evbarm 9.2 seems to work on my Raspberry Pi 2B!
resp:205 Congratulations! :)
I used a Raspberry Pi 4 with Raspian as a full desktop replacement for a year with no real issues. Great little devices!
It's not as tiny as the NUC I had my eye on but I am happy because I was able to get NetBSD/amd64 9.2 onto a PC by burning it onto a CD-RW and installing from that.
IHB Christmas is tomorrow! Merry Christmas 2021 and a happy 2022 to all my fellow Grexers. Hang in there! It's almost over. ;)
Merry Christmas you to papa!
