We had one new member in January (cavers). We are currently at 98 members, 90
of whom are paid through at least February 15th. (The others expired recently
and are in a grace period.)
Well, January was a slow month, as you can see. (That's in sharp contrast to
January of '97, which was Grex's biggest month ever. But a lot of that income
was pledges for the new computer.) We would have lost only about $200, but we
had a bunch of miscellaneous expenses which brought the deficit up to about
$635. We're down to about 4 months worth of operating expenses in the
General Fund.
Thanks to everyone who contributed in January:
bmoran, bruin, cavers, convocat, davel, eeyore, gregory, gustitus, jiffer,
monamoor, mziemba, null, witling, and the Grexwalkers, who contributed the
surplus at Mongolian Barbeque to the Silly Hat Fund.
Thanks!

Could someone please link this into Coop? Thanx!
I sent mail to dang about a link.
could we have an explanation of just what the silly hat fund is, again. please? thanks.
Well, originally Peter Riley (nestene) handed me $5 at a board meeting and said, "This is for the silly hat fund". Later he told me that was shorthand for "This can be used for anything, even silly hats". But in the meantime I had reported it on the treasurer's report as "The Silly Hat Fund". Then a strange thing happened - other people started to contribute to the fund, and it grew to the size you see today. I hope we can think of something interesting to do with it someday; something that is valuable to Grex but more fun than just rolling it back into the general fund.
Well, hat or capital 6 is referred to as 'control' sometimes. Some sort of controler functioning thingy?
I forgot to tell Mark that I sold a shirt to Carson, so actually the store picked up another few bucks. I need to get better about monthly reports - or rather, I need to finish transfering the store to Jennifer. We'll count Carson's shirt in February, once I get the money to him.
Jan handed me the money about 15 minutes after he wrote #6.
This is now (and has been for a bit) linked to coop. Sorry, I'm way, way behind in agora, and will probably *never* get this item read there.
Wish I too could contribute. Hope to do so within an year :)
We will be happy to thank you when the time comes.
