naah...its not like party is ever that active...I rarel see more than a half dozen folks on there at any one time...hardly enough to merit more than one main channel. And since anyone can make channels,yoiu'd still have people allover the place.. Why make things more confusing
I think I'd have to agree, from what I've seen of party since I've come back to Grex. I really haven't noticed more than maybe seven people tops in one channel. Even with that many people, most of them aren't talking and I've never had any trouble following what was going on.
One main channel is fine.
If it weren't so easy to create spontaneous channels already, then perhaps this would help out, but it seems to me the inference one would draw from the situation is that it is the way it is because that's the way the users choose to have it.
i think the idea of a few different primary channels is cool, but i agree with the previously stated statements in that it isn't really that necessary.
If janc or someone could be enticed into tweaking the party code... What would help me keep up in a busy party is a mode which would mimic IRC: when I am typing a response, the lines of others continue to scroll up on my screen. This would have to be an option, since dumb terminals couldn't use it.
The option of having several main party channels is definitely uncool (this is a new word or what ?) as you could as well create channels of your own - besides the main channels don't have anything extra ordinary about it. Partry is definitely fun with a single main channel and several private channels. Val - thanks for the suggestion though.
I don't feel it's needed either. Way back when I was a heavy partier the few times it got too crowded to follow our conversation just started another channel. We really wanted to have our conversation, so we did. A few others followed and wandered in and out. It was good.

My own guess about party channels is that when party does fill up, at least some of the users are knowledgeable enough to create channels, and invite others in.

Well, i think party is all the main channel we need. If people want a different channel to talk in with friends or just one other person, they create it...I think additional main channels would be a waste of time and energy. Also, party never has more than 10 people or so in it. I htink the biggest problem grex has to deal with right now is the horrible lag it has been experiencing the last week or so.
start in the single big stream, and make your own tributaries as needed.

Ok here is the deal..... I see where you are coming from Valerie... I know when I go into party and 16 people bombart me at once with hello's and are all talking to me at once it can be very confusing.... BUT it is home.. I think grex would be weird with more then one party channel... I like grex *because* it only has one party channel. I used to log on the resort and other talkers of that nature and there where like 300 users and 20 party channels ... I detest that. It is to impersonal and cold... There are tons of channels on grex and the people who created them Frequent them very often. i personally love my channel and as you can see most of the time I am in that channel talking to one or two people at once.. But that is because I like the one on one atmosphere as where my boyfriend loves party and loves talking (bugging) OH did I say THAT???=) to everyone at once. I consider grex a family and party in is the living room and all the private channels are the bedrooms (so to speak) . So I think it is fine the way it is. But that is my opinion and I love how the grex staff is always concerned about what we think. Valerie is cool and I like her=). Well I came here thinking it was a good idea to have more than just one main party channels..but after reading everyone's responses i have to agree with the lot of them and concur it may not be the best. I do like party as it is. And if it is decided to have more than one main channel maybe it would be good to try it out temporarily. And Megz I like your metaphor about party being the living room and the personal channels the bedrooms. I couldn't have put it a better way.

Nice suggestion for having multi channels.. I too agree irrespective of so many responses in rejecting it.. What I am thinking you know friends.. if for ex. if only four of us want to have privacy discussion its impossible with currnet single party right??..so why dont we have more channels...This is only my view...let us all wait for lot of samples and then decide...
You can always create private channels. The question here is whether to have more than one main channel. I think the concensus on that is pretty clear now.

I vote one party channel instead multiple There wasn't much people at any given time I have been on grex for 2 month already... and only 1 occurances there are more than 15 people not like my local irc, only a few people but with multiple enter/return key and just screaming other's name just like this.... scgggggggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii long now...get what i mean..valerie ? partying on grex =nice already private channel = nice already multiple channel= hard to find more than 3 people!!! in a channel trying...=maybe worth it... sorry for taking up your screen....
