I think tsty is lodging a complaint about a modem in the hunt not working
properly.

...and a few minutes ago, it 'did it agian.' but then it's probably
cause i havent changed anything although other ppl have 'noticed' it
chime in with similar observations.
  
what is the possibility of swapping what ever is living on -3000 to
some other line and see if the problem persists?

Do you know it's on -3000?  It might well be something later in the trunk
hunt, with -3000 actually busy.

if  the actual -3000 is busy, i don't show up on tty h4. 
at the moment i'm on tty h6 and just before having to re-login (my
proboem) i was on tty h5  - dialed -3000 each time.
  
not a zip's worth of problem either login.
  
whatever is dying on tty h4 can be swapped around to see if the
problem follws it.
